Huskies notch 15 Top-5 finishes in quad meet finale

Final Results

FAIRFAX, Va. - On the final day of the George Mason quad meet, the Northeastern womens' swimming and diving teams registered 15 top-5 finishes, including three first place swims.

The Huskies defeated Drexel by a 205-148 score, but fell in their first losses of the year to Towson 231-122 and to host team George Mason in a tight 182-169 battle. Northeastern is now 3-2 on the year, 1-1 in conference action.

"The meet was a great opportunity to see some excellent conference competition as well as one of the best teams in the Atlantic 10," said head coach Roy Coates. "Our team competed hard and continues to grow as a team. We have some details to work on, however, I am very pleased where we are at this junction of the season."

Combined with Northeastern's five top-5 finishes yesterday, the Huskies finished the meet with 20 total top-5 finishes.

Sara Touchette-McGowan was a part of two of the Huskies wins on the day, touching the wall in 55.29 to take first place in the 100-fly. The Huskies had a one-two punch in that race as Delaney Lanker came in behind Touchette-McGowan with a 58.26 finish.

Christine Leong set a new season best in the 100-back with a 56.99 time, shaving a half a second off of her previous best set last meet at UNH.

The Huskies 200-medley relay team also took first at the meet, earning much needed relay points with a 1:47.06 time against the competition.
