CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Northeastern men's basketball team (20-11, 12-6 CAA) claimed a share of the CAA regular season title with a 65-56 win at the College of Charleston (8-23, 3-15 CAA) on Saturday at TD Arena.

Northeastern, William & Mary, UNCW and James Madison all finished the season with identical 12-6 conference records, creating the first-ever four-way tie for first place in the CAA standings. This is also the first season since 2005-06 in which at least two teams tied for the regular season title.

Due to William & Mary's superior record against the other 12-6 teams, the Tribe will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CAA Championship, while UNCW, Northeastern and JMU will round out spots two through four, respectively. The Huskies will now face No. 6 seed Delaware in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in Baltimore, Maryland.

The turning point in Saturday's game came after halftime, when Northeastern scored 14 of the first 16 points out of the locker room to turn a 33-32 deficit into a 46-35 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the game.

Junior David Walker scored 19 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Walker also went 9-for-9 at the foul line and led the team with 39 minutes played to notch his eighth straight double-figure scoring game.

Junior Zach Stahl added 11 points and seven rebounds, senior Scott Eatherton chipped in 10 points and seven boards, and sophomore T.J. Williams contributed 10 points and three assists to help NU to its third 20-win season under head coach Bill Coen.

Joe Chealey paced the Cougars with 20 points, while Canyon Barry added 14 points on 5-for-15 shooting.

The Huskies out-rebounded Charleston by a 28-24 margin and made 22 of 26 free throws (84.6 percent), while shooting 51.3 percent from the floor.

Northeastern's defense rose to the occasion in the opening minutes, forcing three Charleston turnovers before the Cougars could attempt one field goal.

The Huskies led by as many as eight in the first half, but it was Charleston that took the lead into the break courtesy of a 13-2 run late in the frame. The Cougars knocked down six of their first 10 3-point attempts, including two apiece from Barry and Evan Bailey, to grab a 33-28 lead at the 1:52 mark of the frame.

Northeastern scored the last four points of the half to head into the locker room down a point at 33-32, despite shooting 58 percent in the opening half.

The game changed when Northeastern went on a 14-2 run out of the locker room, spurred by a gritty defensive effort that held Charleston to 1-of-9 shooting in the opening seven minutes of the half.

Freshman Devon Begley (five points) stepped up in a big way with a corner three at the end of a shot clock to put NU ahead 49-37 at the 11:17 mark, before Williams followed with another triple to inflate the lead to 54-39 minutes later.

Chealey did his best to keep the Cougars close, scoring Charleston's first nine points of the second half, but it was not enough as the Huskies went 13-for-13 at the line after halftime to close out the game.

The Huskies will begin their quest for the 2015 CAA championship on Saturday, March 7 against Delaware at 8:30 p.m. For tickets, click here.
