GREENVILLE, S.C. – Goals from sophomores Kayla Cappuzzo, Carly Wilhelm and Hannah Lopiccolo helped the Northeastern women's soccer team (1-1-0) to its first win of 2015 with a convincing 3-1 victory at Furman on Sunday.

Cappuzzo registered a goal and an assist, and combined with Lopiccolo to post 12 of Northeastern's 24 shot attempts in the match. The Huskies held Furman to just six shot attempts and enjoyed long spells of possession against a Paladins team (1-1-0) that had beaten Oklahoma two nights prior.

Goal Recaps
• For the second straight contest, Northeastern scored within the game's first 10 minutes as Cappuzzo capitalized on a Furman error to open the scoring. Following an errant back-pass, the sophomore pounced on a loose ball and poked a shot around the oncoming Paladins keeper, inside the right post, to make it 1-0 NU at the 5:23 mark.
• The Huskies doubled the lead through Wilhelm's first collegiate tally at 31:28. Cappuzzo again generated the scoring chance with a shot from the left of the box that was stopped by the Furman keeper. The Paladins were unable to clear the ball, however, and Wilhelm directed the rebound home from point-blank range to make it 2-0.
• Furman scored against the run of play on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute to bring the score to 2-1. Stephanie DeVita stepped up and fired the spot-kick inside the left post, despite a great effort from freshman keeper Nathalie Nidetch, who guessed her dive correctly.
• Northeastern responded with a key insurance goal just 3:21 from full time. Freshman Nicole Gorman took the ball on the right wing and squared to Lopiccolo in the box for a powerful, first-time finish to push the score to 3-1 in the waning moments.

Stats of the Game
• Northeastern outshot Furman, 24-6, and out-cornered the Paladins, 9-1.
• Wilhelm scored her first collegiate goal, while Gorman notched her first collegiate assist.
