BOSTON – Facing its second NSCAA ranked team during the 2015 season, the Northeastern men's soccer team is set to begin its CAA schedule on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 12 p.m. as the Huskies travel to Wilmington, North Carolina, to take on No. 22 UNCW. NU posted a 4-3-1 record during league play a year ago and has successfully achieved a .500 or better conference winning percentage annually since 2011.

LAST TIME OUTÂ
Sophomore goalkeeper and co-captain
Jonathan Thuresson (0-3-1) saved six of the seven shots sent his way on Sept. 22 as Northeastern was held scoreless by New Hampshire in a 1-0 game at Parsons Field. The Wildcats tallied 19 shots, including eight on goal, against the Huskies, who managed to create seven chances, two of which landed on goal. NU racked up six corners on the night, marking the fourth time the Huskies have accumulated five or more corners during the season.
Â
ALL-TIME AGAINST UNCWÂ
Following a 2-0 loss to No. 23 UNCW last season at home on Oct. 18, Northeastern surrendered control of the all-time series to the Seahawks, who took a slight advantage at 5-4-3. Although the Huskies are winless in six road games at UNCW (0-4-2), NU did successfully net all five penalty kicks on the road against the Seahawks in the 2008 CAA semifinals, advancing with the 0-0 (5-3 PK) result.
Â
NU TESTED BY ELITE COMPETITIONÂ
Despite an 0-4-2 start to the 2015 season, Northeastern has held its ground against an extremely challenging schedule. As of Sept. 22, the Huskies' first seven 2015 opponents, including No. 22 UNCW, own a combined winning percentage of .781 (34-7-7), with six of those programs receiving votes in this week's NSCAA coaches' poll. NU has held four opponents this year to one goal or fewer and come within just a one-goal margin of defeat in five of its six matches during 2015.
Â
HUSKIES COLLECT NSCAA ACADEMIC AWARDÂ The Northeastern men's and women's soccer teams have both been honored with the NSCAA College Team Academic Award for excellence in the classroom during 2014-15, as announced on Sept. 23. NU was one of 208 institutions and four CAA programs (Elon, Hofstra, William & Mary) to have both their men's and women's programs commended for their academic success.
WHOÂ NEEDSÂ MOREÂ TIME?
NU is undefeated in its last 19 overtime, regular-season matches (9-0-10), dating back to Nov. 5, 2011, when the Huskies were edged out on the road by William & Mary, 3-2, in the 99th minute. Including the postseason, Northeastern has secured at least a draw (prior to penalty kicks) in 21 of its last 23 matches.
HUSKIESÂ EDGEDÂ BYÂ PROVIDENCE
Jonathan Thuresson was kept on his toes by a talented attacking side in Providence as Northeastern suffered a 2-1 defeat to its New England rival on Sept. 19. Thuresson made five saves despite allowing two goals as the Friars outshot the Huskies, 14-5. Sophomore forward Khesanio Hall opened his Northeastern scoring account in the 90th minute, directing a cross from Marc Greenblatt through the left post with 10 seconds to play in the half (89:50).UP NEXT FOR NORTHEASTERNÂ
The Huskies will resume their CAA schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 30, with a 2 p.m. showdown at Parsons Field against James Madison. Last season against the Dukes,
Frantzdy Pierrot helped Northeastern clinch a spot in the CAA tournament on the final day of the regular season, heading in the game-winner in overtime during the 96th minute.
