InfographicWILMINGTON, N.C. – Although strong defense headlined the Northeastern men's soccer team's CAA opener against No. 22 UNCW on Saturday, the Seahawks managed to slip past the Huskies on a second-half goal as NU ultimately lost a hard-fought, 1-0 decision on the road.

Northeastern (0-5-2, 0-1-0 CAA) was held without a shot on goal for the entirety of the game by UNCW (6-1-1, 1-1-0 CAA), who managed to put three of its 11 shots on net. Neither team attempted a shot on goal until the 58th minute, when NU goalkeeper
Jonathan Thuresson successfully saved a shot by Seawhawks' forward Colin Bonner.

Sophomore forward
Khesanio Hall registered two of the Huskies' four shot attempts, while
Harry Swartz and
Khori Bennett each tallied a single shot during the match. Bennett entered the game for the first time as a substitute in the 38th minute and sent his lone shot of the game, high, during the final minute of the first half.

Bonner led UNCW with five shots, one on goal, while six other Seahawks players were credited with one shot attempt by the game's end. Daniel Escobar, who entered the game as a reserve in the 25th minute, provided UNCW with its only goal of the match in the 67th minute, heading a pass through the net from inside the box following a corner.

Three Northeastern players were cautioned during Saturday's game as Daniel Arvidsoon,
Alex Ainscough, and
Charlton Muhlauri were issued yellow cards during the 39th, 58th, and 61st minute, respectively. Muhlauri is the first NU player to accumulate multiple cautions this season, having previously received a yellow card during the Huskies' Sept. 4 game against No. 16 Stanford.

Saturday's game against UNCW also marked the Northeastern debut of
Alex Ainscough, the son of NU head coach
Brian Ainscough. A. Ainscough joins the Huskies as a transfer from Stanford, appearing in 51 minutes against the Seahawks.

Northeastern will return home to Parsons Field on Wednesday, Sept. 30, for a 2 p.m. day game against James Madison.

STATS OF THE GAME-Northeastern has now held its opponent to one goal or fewer in five of its seven matches this season.
-Four shot attempts are the fewest the Huskies have totaled in a single game during the 2015 season.
-NU matched its season low for shots on goal allowed on Saturday, limiting UNCW to just three. The Huskies previoulsly held Temple to three shots on goal on Aug. 30 and Fairfield to three shots on goal on Sept. 12.
-UNCW improves its advantage in the all-time series against Northeastern to 6-4-3.
