Postgame NotesBOSTON - Despite a career-high 19-point effort from
Jeremy Miller, the Northeastern men's basketball team fell 75-63 to James Madison Thursday night at Matthews Arena.
The loss marked Northeastern's first conference home loss of the season and just the second loss at Matthews in 2015-16.
The Huskies (11-7, 3-2 CAA) jumped out to a fast lead in the first half, but James Madison (13-5, 3-2) answered quickly and never looked back.
Miller finished with 19 points, a career-best for the freshman, to go along with six rebounds. Ten of Miller's 19 points came from the charity stripe, as he was a career-best 10-of-12 from the free throw line on the night.
David Walker also contributed a double-digit effort in the game, his first since dropping 26 points against Elon on Dec. 31. Walker finished the night with 13 points, two rebounds and three assists.
T.J. Williams collected his first double-digit effort of the season, and first since dropping 10 points at College of Charleston on Feb. 28, 2015, with 11 points to go along with 2 rebounds, an assist and a steal.
James Madison had four players in double-figures, led by Ron Curry who finished with 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
The Dukes finished the night with 10 3-pointers, and shot 56.5 percent from the field. Northeastern tallied just five treys on 27 attempts, for a 18.5 3FG percentage, while only connecting on 19 field goals.
James Madison took a commanding first half lead behind 7-of-11 3-point shooting, while Northeastern was 2-for-12 from deep in the first 20 minutes. JMU's 42 first half points tied the most scored against the Huskies this season.
Miller won the opening tip for the Huskies and then went on to score Northeastern's first five points of the ball game on a layup on the opening drive, followed by a 3-pointer from the top of the key.
But the Huskies would not score for the next four minutes, as JMU tallied nine unanswered points during that time.
A
Quincy Ford trey, with 11:52 left in the first half would make it a three-point ball game, but JMU would respond with a 13-3 run over the next four minutes to take a 29-16 lead. The Dukes took a 15-point lead into the locker room, the largest halftime deficit for the Huskies this season.
In the second half, the Huskies came out sharp and tallied their first six points of the half via 6-of-6 free throw shooting. James Madison answered on the other end of the court.
With less than 10 minutes remaining, Miller and Williams jump started a Northeastern run. Miller began things with a layup, followed by four straight points by Williams, and a couple more free throws by Miller to cut the game to within six.
But like they had been doing all night, James Madison responded with a three, this time from the corner, and a Ford charge on the other end of the court halted the Husky momentum and swung it in favor of the Dukes as they would cruise to the 75-63 victory.
The Huskies are back in action on Saturday afternoon as they head to Delaware for a meeting with the Blue Hens at 2 p.m. in Newark.
