Huskies earn ninth dual-meet victory on senior day

Results

BOSTON – The Northeastern women's swimming and diving team celebrated the seniors in style, earning their ninth dual-meet victory of the season against LIU Brooklyn, 181-74, on Saturday at Barletta Natatorium. The Huskies also competed against Babson in the non-scored diving portions.

Seniors Taylor Brew, Sophie Browne, Amanda Liew and Megan Rutter were recognized prior to the meet for their commitment to the NUWSD program.

"I'm very happy for the seniors. I'm glad they had the opportunity to shine. They deserve it," said head coach Roy Coates. "They've been a great representation of the team and we'll miss them greatly."
 
The Red and Black won 11 of the 14 scored events, including the first four, and picked up 31 top-three performances and 41 top-five spots.
 
Meet highlights
• Kicking things off were Kierstin Chu, Tove Bjork, Sara Touchette-McGowan and Amanda Liew in the 200 medley relay with their first place finish of 1:48.15.
 
• Sophomore Anila Mehta had a career best performance in the 500 freestyle, tagging the wall in 5:13.28 for first place.
 
• First-years Kierstin Chu and Carly Schnabel both won their events – Chu in the 50 backstroke (27.71) and Schnabel in the 100 backstroke (59.18).
 
• Rookie Mackenzie Hagist registered a personal best in the 3-meter dive (exhibition) with  259.95 points.
 
• Touchette-McGowan capitalized on the day with two more first-place spots. The sophomore won the 50 freestyle (24.51) and 50 butterfly (25.92).
 
• In the second-to-last event of the day, all three seniors placed in the top five of the 100 IM, with Liew coming in first (1:02.59), followed by Browne (1:02.81) and Brew in fifth (1:04.80).
 
Up next
NU will compete in the non-scored Connecticut Husky Invitational next Saturday, Feb. 6 before heading to the CAA Championships Feb. 20-27.
