WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Shooting just 33.3 percent from the field, the Northeastern men's basketball team fell at William & Mary Saturday, 78-60, in front of 3,626 at Kaplan Arena.
Â
The Tribe (11-4, 3-1 CAA) has historically played Northeastern (11-6, 3-1 CAA) tough at home as four of the last five meetings in Williamsburg have resulted in double-digit losses. Saturday's was the biggest since a 79-54 defeat on Feb. 11, 2012.
Â
Northeastern was led by
Quincy Ford who notched 18 points on the night to go along with five rebounds, three steals, two blocks and an assist. Ford closed out the first half scoring 16 straight Northeastern points.
Â
Jeremy Miller finished with nine points and eight rebounds on the night, while three other Huskies tallied eight points.
Â
David Walker finished with six points, three assists and three steals. Today's game marked the third-straight game in single digit scoring for Walker, the first time he has done that since since Feb. 11-16, 2013 during his freshman season.
Â
William & Mary was led by Omar Prewitt who had a game-high 23 points combined with five rebound, and four assists. Terry Tarpey finished with a double-double behind 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Â
William & Mary got on board first over a minute into play, but Miller immediately responded on the other end of the court with a lay up of his own to even the score at 18:27. However, the Huskies would go 0-for-7 from the field over the next five and a half minutes as William & Mary built up a 10-4 advantage.
Â
Walker ended the drought with a 3-pointer at 12:53 and
Devon Begley would add one of his own to make it a two-point ball-game but Tarpey answered immediately on the other end for the Tribe.
Â
From that point on it was the Ford show as he recorded the final 16 points of the half for the Huskies, and in doing so, extended his double-digit scoring streak to 17 games.
Â
Ford helped Northeastern cut the lead to just three, but three straight William & Mary baskets extended the lead to 10, before a Ford and-one made it a seven-point deficit before the half.
Â
Five of Northeastern's nine first half baskets came from long-range, helping keep the Huskies in the ball game.
Â
But Northeastern couldn't get the ball to fall in the second half and William & Mary quickly built an 18-point lead through 30 minutes of play.
Â
That lead extended to 24 with a minute and a half left in the game, however the Huskies cut it down to an 18-point loss as
T.J. Williams notched Northeastern's final six points of action.
Â
The Huskies return to action on Thursday night when they play host to James Madison at Matthews Arena, and will be televised on Comcast Sports Net. The game will air on tape delay in Boston at 12:30 a.m., but will be broadcasted live in other markets to be announced.
