ResultsNEWARK, Del. – The Northeastern women's swimming and diving team outlasted the Drexel Dragons 196-104, but came up short against host the Delaware Blue Hens 167-133, in the Delaware Tri-Meet on Saturday at Rawstrom Natatorium.
NU (5-3, 2-2 CAA) capped the day off with eight event wins, 13 top-three finishes and 28 top-five spots.
"The team really stepped up today," said head coach
Roy Coates, "I was really impressed with our preparation and our competitive spirit. Coming off training camp and performing so well is a great sign for the remainder of the season."
Junior
Taylor Ellis swept the breaststroke events and tabbed a new team season record in the 100 breast with 1:04.00, shaving off .53 seconds from the previous best that she set.
Junior captain
Delaney Lanker won both the 100 and 200 butterfly with 57.21 and 2:04.49, respectively, while sophomore
Christine Leong tagged the wall first in the 200 backstroke (2:04.76).
In the diving portion,
Jacquelyn Gover took third place in the 1-meter and 3-meter with a score of 270.10 and 249.60, respectively.
Up nextNortheastern hits the road to face the Vermont Catamounts on Martin Luther King Jr. Day - Monday, Jan. 18. The meet is set for 10 a.m. at Forbush Natatorium.
