BROOKLINE, Mass. – A 35-yard strike by Hannah Lopiccolo and an insurance goal added late by Hannah Rosenblatt helped the Northeastern women's soccer team navigate a rain-filled Friday night at Parsons Field as the Huskies earned their sixth CAA victory by a 2-0 score line.

Northeastern's victory assures the Huskies a bye to the CAA semifinal round, to be held on Friday, Nov. 4, at the campus site of the tournament's No. 1 seed. NU can clinch the No. 1 seed and the right to host the semifinal and championship rounds by earning a win or draw against James Madison on Sunday, Oct. 23.

The Huskies controlled the pace of the match directly from the start, tallying the first five shots of the match before Lopiccolo sent a free kick from distance and through during the 25th minute. Northeastern (11-6-1, 6-2-0 CAA) went on to outshoot Towson (6-11-1, 3-5-0 CAA) by a 9-2 margin during the first half, before unloading 11 shots to the Tigers' one during the second half.

Weather proved to be a challenge for both teams as rain varied from light to heavy throughout the evening, leading to a lengthy lightning delay that interrupted the match during the second half. NU, however, did not back down after the intermission, finding room for nine more shots, including Rosenblatt's ninth goal of the year.

Nathalie Nidetch remained untested for the majority of the evening, saving the one shot on goal she faced during the 28th minute. Jill Quinn substituted on for Nidetch during the 87th minute, while nine reserves in total came on for the Huskies.

GOAL RECAPS

• Northeastern (25th minute): Showcasing her precision from long range, Hannah Lopiccolo skied a free kick from 35 yards out to the top left corner of the net, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead on its sixth shot of the match.
• Northeastern (82nd minute): Leading an NU counter up the right side, Carly Wilhelm skidded a pass to forward Nicole Gorman, who continued the same path of the ball to an open Hannah Rosenblatt. Placing the ball on her right foot from within the 18-yard box, Rosenblatt rocketed a shot towards the right post, sealing the victory for the Huskies.

NOTEWORTHY

• The match was interrupted by a 39-minute lightning delay during the 64th minute of play.
• Hannah Lopiccolo's 25th-minute goal was her fourth of the season and first since Sept. 23 against Delaware. With 11 points, she is currently the Huskies' third-highest point bearer.
• Hannah Rosenblatt scored her team-leading, ninth goal of the season, moving her into a three-way tie for second most in the CAA.
• Sophomore Nicole Gorman was credited with her first assist of the season, picking up her first point in 14 appearances since scoring against UNCW on Oct. 4, 2015.
