"I am extremely proud and excited to announce our captains for the 2016-17 year," said Glavine. "These young men represent the best of our program and university. They are hardworking, show tremendous leadership skills, and have the respect of their peers. Congratulations to Mike, Pat, Cam, and Max."

Madigan will remain a team captain for the second straight season after partnering former Northeastern catcher
Josh Treff in the same role during the 2016 campaign. The six-foot-two outfielder held an explosive bat for the Huskies last year, leading NU in slugging percentage (.414) while driving in another team high, 35 runs. Madigan's 82 total bases during 2016, in addition to his 16 extra-base hits (eight doubles, triple, seven home runs), earned the Freeport, New York, native a spot on the conference's All-CAA Third Team at the end of the season.
Â
A veteran of the Huskies' bullpen, Fitzgerald returns for his fifth season at Northeastern fresh off setting the program's single-season saves record (11) and matching the school's all-time record in the same category (17). Last year, the NU right-hander protected two combined shutouts, fanning 32 batters while boasting a 3.26 ERA during 38.2 innings on the mound. Like Madigan, Fitzgerald received an all-conference selection upon the conclusion of the regular season, being named to the All-CAA Second Team.
Â
Despite missing the middle portion of the 2016 campaign while recovering from injury, Hanley's return to the NU lineup during the final week of the regular season did not go unnoticed. The five-foot-11, lefty bat pegged a double during the third at-bat of his return game on May 20, adding another two-bagger on May 21 and two more during the CAA tournament the following week. Hanley will be a season removed from belting .293 as a sophomore during 2015 – the year in which he led the Huskies in doubles, sporting 15.
Â
A defensive guru at shortstop and in the dugout,
Max Burt will be the fourth member of the Huskies' leadership core during 2016-17. Few balls averted Burt's infield glove last season as the then-sophomore set the Northeastern single-season assists record, raising the mark to 172. With his speed around the bases, Burt stole 10 bags for the Huskies during 2016 and legged out 12 extra-base hits, including seven doubles, two triples, and three homers. Since debuting at Northeastern in 2015, he has started all 113 of the Huskies' games.
