BOSTON – After picking up its third road victory at UNCW during the last four seasons on Friday, the Northeastern women's basketball team will continue its North Carolina trip on Sunday, Feb. 14, when the Huskies and Phoenix complete their regular-season series in a 2 p.m. game. Earlier this season on Jan. 29, Tiffany Montagne notched a season high, 18 points, despite the Huskies losing on Elon's game-winning layup with three seconds left.

ALL-TIME AGAINST ELON

Northeastern had never faced Elon prior to the two team's CAA home-and-home series last year. Although the Huskies are 0-3 all-time against the Phoenix, NU has lost all three games by just one possession, coming up on the short side of 80-77 (Jan. 25, 2015), 74-73 (Feb. 19, 2015), and 56-54 (Jan. 29, 2016) score lines.

HUSKIES HONORING PLAY 4KAY WEEK

Northeastern will be participating in three Play 4Kay games during the nationally-recognized week from Feb. 12 to Feb. 21. The Huskies will play two Play 4Kay games on the road at UNCW (Feb. 12) and Elon (Feb. 14), before honoring the event at home on Friday, Feb. 19, against Delaware.

THE FIELD GOAL IS GOOD

Northeastern's 27 field goal makes against UNCW on Feb. 12 are the most the Huskies have made in a CAA game since Feb. 15, 2015, also against the Seahawks (31). Here is a look at Northeastern's top shooting perfomances by number of made field goals:

After bringing down eight or more rebounds once during her first 17 games of the season, sophomore Claudia Ortiz has done so during each of her last two games. Ortiz set a new career high, nine rebounds, on Feb. 7 against James Madison, and recorded eight on Feb. 12 against UNCW.

NU TO PLAY NEXT SEASON IN MEXICO

On Feb. 10, Northeastern was one of 10 schools selected to compete next season in the 2016 Women's Cancun Challenge, to be held at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico. The Huskies will be paired in the tournament's Mayan Division and will play three round-robin games against Stanford, Purdue, and Wichita State between Nov. 24 and Nov. 26. NU will be playing outside of the contiguous United States for the first time in program history.

GENCO LANDS SECOND ROOKIE AWARD

Freshman point guard Jess Genco was named CAA Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on Feb. 8. The Scranton, Pennsylvania, native did not miss a single second of action during the Huskies' two games the previous week (80-of-80 minutes), shooting a combined 45 percent from the field (nine-of-20) and 40 percent from downtown (six-of-15). Genco is the fifth CAA player to win multiple Rookie of the Week awards this season.

DEFREESE JOINS 1,000-POINT CLUB

Senior Samantha DeFreese scored her 1,000th career point at home on Feb. 7 against James Madison. The milestone came with 4:28 remaining in the third quarter, when DeFreese was fouled while making a layup in the paint. She completed the three-point play at the line following the media timeout, bringing NU level with JMU at 36-36. DeFreese is the 19th player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark.

THAT MAGIC (THIRD) QUARTER

Northeastern has outscored eight opponents this season by eight points or more during the third quarter. Here is a look at some of the Huskies' best third-quarter performances this year:

NU IN TRUE ROAD GAMES

The Huskies' loss to Delaware on Jan. 10 was Northeastern's first in a true game this season after winning its first four. NU opened the 2015-16 season with two road wins against Boston University (W, 77-44) and Siena (W, 70-67), and more recently shut out Drexel in overtime, 8-0, to earn a 73-65 road victory on Jan. 8. Overall, Northeastern is 6-4 in true road games this season. The Huskies enter Sunday's game having also won two straight road games.

GENCO LEADS NCAA ROOKIES IN MINUTES

As of Feb. 13, freshman Jess Genco leads all Division I freshmen in minutes per game with an average court time of 38.7 minutes per game. Genco is ranked second in the nation in the same category among all Division I student-athletes, trailing only Hampton's Malia Tate-DeFreitas (39.1 minutes per game).

DEFREESE ON A ROLL

Samantha DeFreese has double-doubled during three consecutive games and has scored at least 12 points during each of her last six games, dating back to Jan. 25 against Drexel. This year, the senior has achieved six double-doubles, including the 17th of her career, made at least 10 field goals four times, and scored 20 or more points five times.

CAA ALL-ROOKIE TEAM CANDIDATES

Already 12 of 18 games into the CAA season, freshmen Jess Genco and Gabby Giacone both find themselves in the running for the league's All-Rookie Team. Considering overall statistics, Genco leads CAA rookies in assists per game (3.7), assist-turnover ratio (1.0), and minutes played (38.7 minutes per game), while Giacone leads the conference's freshmen in field goal percentage (40.9 percent), and free-throw percentage (76.2 percent), is second in scoring (8.8 points per game), and third in rebounding (5.7 rebounds per game).

GETTING OFF TO A HOT START

The Huskies tied a season high for first-quarter points scored by notching 24 against UNCW on Feb. 12. NU previously scored 24 points during the first quarter on Jan. 3 against Towson. Northeastern's season high for points in a quarter is 26, achieved during the fourth quarter of the Huskies' Nov. 13 game against Boston University.

FIRST HALF LOWS

On Jan. 25, NU limited Drexel to just 17 points in the first half, the second lowest point total the Huskies have allowed during the first two quarters this season. Northeastern held UMES to 15 points during the first half of the two teams' Nov. 19 game, surrendering just two points during the second quarter.

T.G.I.F

NU has earned six of its wins this season on Fridays, more than any other day of the week. On Fridays this year, the Huskies are 4-1 in true road games, 4-2 in CAA games, and 3-1 in CAA road games. Northeastern's two overtime victories this year have also come on Fridays.

DEFREESE AMONG THE NU SHOOTING GREATS

Senior forward Samantha DeFreese enters Friday's game with a career field-goal percentage of 50.9 percent (406-of-797). With six games remaining in the regular season, the Bergenfield, New Jersey, native looks to join Jewel Tunstull (54.9 percent, 2010-14), and Carla Singleton (51.9 percent, 1983-87) as the only Northeastern players to shoot 50 percent or better during their careers, given at least 450 field-goal attempts.

GENCO ON PACE TO BREAK NU ASSIST RECORDS

Freshman point guard Jess Genco has dished out 84 assists during her first 23 career games, averaging 3.7 assists per game during her rookie season. Only three Northeastern players have averaged more assists during their entire careers: Tesha Tinsley (4.0, 1996-00), Jody Burrows (3.9, 2003-07), and Desiree Clagon (3.9, 1981-85). Genco is also just 13 assists shy of tying the NU record for most assists in a season by a freshman (Jody Burrows, 97, 2003-04).

SHARING THE WEALTH

Since Dec. 9 against Quinnipiac, the Huskies have seen eight different leading scorers during 16 games, with Samantha DeFreese leading the team six times during the stretch. This season, Northeastern has also seen nine different players lead the team in scoring at least once, including all four freshmen.

GIACONE WITH CONSECUTIVE DOUBLE-DOUBLES

Gabby Giacone came away with two consecutive double-doubles against Elon (Jan. 29) and William & Mary (Jan. 31). The six-foot freshman from Delmar, New York, has achieved four double-doubles during her rookie season, including three during a six-game stretch from Jan. 15 to Jan. 31. Giacone has scored 13 or more points five times this year and set a career high, 11 rebounds, on Jan. 31 against William & Mary.
