Priscilla Edwards-Lloyd Welcomes Two To Women's Basketball Staff

BOSTON – Northeastern women's basketball head coach Priscilla Edwards-Lloyd is thrilled to welcome Jay Yve Modi and Taniyah Thompson to Huntington Ave on Wednesday. Modi joins the Huskies as an Assistant Coach, as Thompson joins the staff as a Graduate Assistant. 


"We are incredibly excited to welcome Jay to the program," said Edwards-Lloyd. "Jay brings a very unique set of experiences with both his Euroleague and NBA backgrounds. Jay has an elite basketball acumen and an ability to connect with people. We look forward to having him in our Husky Family. "

Prior to Northeastern, Modi worked for the Houston Rockets organization as head video coordinator. While there, he was responsible for creating film for all coaching staff and team meetings, oversaw the facilitation of all video and scouting reports between the coaching staff and players, and created post-game sorters for Coach Udoka, and personal post-game sorters for leading Rockets players. 

Before the Rockets, Modi worked overseas as an assistant coach for Hapoel Tel Aviv in the EuroCup. While there, he was the front bench assistant coach who was responsible for player development and scouting. Modi also held the responsibility of creating all EuroCup related personnel and team video reports, and generated video and written scouts regarding potential roster additions. 

From 2019-2021, Modi worked for the Dallas Mavericks within player development and analytics. In his player development role, he worked with athletes daily as a part of the player development staff, assisted with on-court player development activities such as individual workout sessions, practices, and pre-game warm-ups. In his analytics assistant role, he prepared live and post-game reports to examine both team and individual performance, oversaw SecondSpectrum video projects, partook in pre-draft assessment process by conducting video research, personal interviews, and reporting potential prospects. 

Prior to the Mavericks, Modi worked at Sarah Lawrence College as an assistant coach for their men's basketball program. With the men's basketball program, he had the responsibilities of conducting team practices and individual workouts, in-game play calling and defensive adjustments, as well as preparing and presenting all aspects of opponent scouting, such as team and personnel video clips with written scouting reports. 

Modi graduated from Lehman College with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He also earned his master's degree in Computer Science at Marist College. 

"Taniyah is a person I've had the chance to watch grow over the years," explained Edwards-Lloyd. "She has played at the highest levels of basketball professionally and at the collegiate level, and now, beginning her coaching journey.  She will be a great model and teacher for our student-athletes on what it takes to excel on and off the court. We are elated to have her with Team 60!"

Before Northeastern, Thompson has spent time as both a basketball trainer and videographer in the Connecticut area. She provided instruction in the fundamentals of basketball including - dribbling, shooting, passing, rebounding, and footwork. Outside of fundamentals, Thompson developed and implemented individualized basketball training plans for her clients. 

As a player, Thompson played at Georgia, Penn State, and East Carolina in college. At Georgia, she averaged 6.8 points per game, 2.4 rebounds, and 18.7 minutes per game. At Penn State, Thompson recorded 7.8 points per game, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.9 assists. In Thompson's three years at East Carolina, she tallied 15 points per game, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists. Professionally, she played for Gallardo, Turkey, where at the conclusion of her season, her stat line read 17.2 points per game, 6.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and shot a 0.427 clip from the field. 

Thompson graduated with a bachelor's degree in Communication in 2023 from Penn State and earned a post-degree certificate in learning, design & technology from Georgia in 2024.
