NCAA TOURNAMENT STORYLINES
• Northeastern (28-8-1) will be making its NCAA tournament debut on Saturday against No. 1 overall seed and Hockey East rival Boston College (38-0-0).

• The Huskies' first-ever NCAA tournament berth is the latest achievement in an already record-breaking campaign for NU. The Huskies have won a program record 28 games this season and have secured their largest season-to-season improvement in program history with 14 more wins in 2015-16 (28-8-1) than in 2014-15 (14-17-5). The 14-win improvement ranks second in the NCAA to Colgate, which won 15 more games than a season ago.

• Northeastern will attempt to become the first No. 8 seed to defeat a No. 1 seed since the NCAA tournament field expanded to eight teams in 2005. From 2001-04, the tournament field consisted of four teams, and during that time, three No. 1 seeds were knocked off in the opening round.

• With two Hockey East programs squaring off in the opening round of the tournament, the conference is ensured to have at least one representative in the Frozen Four for the fifth time in the last six seasons.

• Saturday's matchup features the top two individual scorers in the nation in 2016 WHEA Player of the Year Kendall Coyne (83 points) of Northeastern and BC's Alex Carpenter (82 points). The U.S. National Team teammates were also named Patty Kazmaier top-three finalists on March 3, joining Wisconsin's Ann-Renee Desbiens.

• Coyne enters Saturday's contest with an NCAA-high 49 goals. With one more goal, Coyne would become the second player since the year 2000 to score 50 goals in a season (Harvard's Nicole Corriero scored 59 in 2004-05).

• NU and BC played two competitive games at Conte Forum earlier this season. On Nov. 20, BC's Kaliya Johnson broke a 2-2 tie with 7:17 remaining in the third period, before Tori Sullivan added an empty-netter at the buzzer to give the Eagles a 4-2 win. On Feb. 12, BC's Kenzie Kent scored with two seconds left in the second period to give the Eagles a 4-3 lead, before an empty-netter with 30 seconds left sealed the 5-3 scoreline for the hosts.

• Despite making its first-ever appearance in the NCAA tournament, Northeastern is no stranger to success on the national stage. Before the NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Championship was established in 2001, the Huskies won three ECAC titles–arguably the equivalent of the national championship at the time–in 1988, 1989 and 1997. The 1987-88 ECAC championship squad remains the only team in program history to go undefeated at a perfect 26-0-1.

• Saturday's NCAA tournament game will feature two of the top three scoring offenses in the nation as BC averages 5.37 goals per game to rank first in the NCAA, while NU averages 4.38 goals per game to rank third. Northeastern is 24-0-0 when it scores four or more goals this season, compared to 4-8-1 when held to three goals or less.

• Head coach Dave Flint will be coaching in his 250th career game at Northeastern on Saturday at Boston College. Since 2008, Flint has posted a 134-90-25 record at Northeastern, good for a .588 winning percentage. In addition to leading the Huskies to their winningest season in program history in 2015-16, Flint has also helped NU capture two Women's Beanpot titles (2012, 2013) and the WHEA regular season championship in 2012.
