BALTIMORE – The Northeastern men's basketball team cut a 10-point UNCW lead with 1:14 on the clock to just one with 14 seconds left in the game, but fell just short to the Seahawks, 73-70 on Sunday afternoon at Royal Farms Arena in the CAA Tournament Semifinal game.

The Huskies were led, once again, by senior Quincy Ford who finished with 21 points, and four rebounds. David Walker and T.J. Williams added 16 each while Zach Stahl finished with his third double-double of the season and fifth career on 11 points and a career-high 13 rebounds in his final CAA Tournament game.

With his 16 points, David Walker moved into eighth place all-time on the Northeastern career scoring chart past John Clark and now has 1,631 career points. Ford's 21 put him in a tie for ninth place with Clark at 1,617 career points.

UNCW was led by Chris Flemmings who had 21 points and five rebounds on the night and was 4-for-5 from behind the arc to help the Seahawks to the win.

Northeastern finishes its season with an 18-15 record while the Husky senior class finishes with four-straight trips to the CAA Semifinal game, a couple of CAA final appearances, two CAA regular season championships, a CAA tournament championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Midway through the second half, UNCW went on a 16-2 run to build up a 55-42 advantage over the Huskies. The Seahawks extended that lead to 14 with 9:10 left in the ball game, but the Huskies slowly chipped away.

There was first a Walker jumper, then a three by Ford to cut the lead to single digits. Three straight free throws by Stahl made it an eight-point game. A run of free throws by Ford and Williams cut the lead to seven and after UNCW took a 10-point lead with just over a minute remaining, the Huskies did the unimaginable.

First Walker sunk a pair of free throws, and after a UNCW miss, connected on a jumper to make it a six-point game with 52 seconds left.  After a UNCW turnover, Williams connected on a layup to cut the lead to four.

Devon Begley fouled immediately and Jordon Talley made just one of his two free throws, Ford's next two free throws makes cut things to three.

As UNCW was trying to get the ball up the court, Stahl picked the pocket of Denzel Ingram and a tip-in by Ford off his own initial miss made it just a one-point ball game with 14 seconds left.

Begley fouled again and Ingram hit a pair of free throws to extend the lead to three. Ford was fouled on the ensuing possession and hit the first, then purposely missed the second to try and tie the score up, but a lane violation erased the try.

With 1.4 seconds left, Begley fouled again and after just one make by Ingram, the Huskies had a chance for a full court play, but a UNCW defender tipped the ball in the air and as it bounced inbounds, the time on the clock expired to end the game.

In the first half, Williams tallied 10 of his 16 points getting to the free throw line seven times, connecting on six of those attempts. Williams' 10 points led all scorers in the first stanza of play.

Northeastern got on top first with a Jeremy Miller free throw, the fourth time this season a shot from the charity stripe has notched the first points of the game.

After a UNCW bucket, Walker his his first three of the game to take a brief 4-2 lead, before the Seahawks tied it up at four-all. Back-to-Back buckets by Stahl and Williams gave the Huskies a three-point lead at 10-7 with 12:41 left in the first, but UNCW tied things up once again a few minutes later.

In the first half alone, there were six ties and nine lead changes, but the Huskies gained a four-point lead, the largest by either team in the half on back-to-back treys by Caleb Donnelly and Walker to make it a 32-28 game with 3:06 left in the half.

UNCW closed out the half on a 6-0 run to make it a 34-32 score at halftime.

The Huskies chipped away at the lead in the second half as a second chance 3-pointer by Ford off of a one-handed Stahl rebound made it a one-point game. Stahl squared things up at 39-all and gave the Huskies a 40-39 lead on a pair of free throws one possession later.
