Huskies To Face UNCW In CAA Semis

Northeastern has now advanced to the CAA semis for the fourth straight year

BALTIMORE – The Northeastern basketball team has advanced to the CAA Semifinal game for the fourth straight season and will face the No. 2 seed UNCW at 3:30 p.m. at Royal Farms Arena.

Northeastern fans in Baltimore are encouraged to attend the pregame pep rally at the Pratt Street Ale House beginning at 1 p.m.
 
The game will be streamed live on NBC Sports Network and can be found online on NBCSports.com with Mike Corey and Ron Thompson on the call.
                                                                                                                                                                       
Northeastern enters the game with a 18-14 record, and is coming off of a 71-60 upset of Towson in the quarterfinal round game. Northeastern has won six of its last seven games.
 
UNCW finished the regular season with a is currently 23-7 on the year and was able to outlast Charleston in the quarters, 66-64 as a Jerrell Brantley jumper in the paint did not fall as time expired.

• This is the 96th season of Northeastern men's basketball. NU has an all-time record of 1,173-1,083 (.520) in 2,255 games.
• This will be the 20th meeting between the two teams in program history
• Northeastern leads the all-time series 10-9

• With Northeastern's win at Delaware, head coach Bill Coen now holds the title of most conference victories by a NU coach, passing Jim Calhoun (more on page 6)
• Coen earned his 100th career CAA regular season victory vs. Charleston on Feb. 25
• Coen tallied his 150th career win (all at Northeastern) with a 78-77 upset over No. 15/19 Miami on Nov. 27.
• The Huskies are 371-252 (.596) all-time in conference play including a 113-82 (.579) record since joining the CAA in the 2005-06 season.
 
A WIN WOULD... 
• With a victory the Huskies would improve to 19-14 on the season and advance on to the finals of the CAA Tournament for the second straight season
• Be Northeastern's third in the last four meetings with UNCW and second straight in the CAA Tournament
• The victory would mark the Huskies fifth straight CAA Tournament victory after going 3-0 and earning a CAA Tourney title last season
 
OF NOTE: David Walker has played in 1,224 minutes of action this season, besting the school record for most minutes played in a season originally set by Andre Lafleur (1,217) in the 1986-87 season in his last game out vs. Towson
 
THIS YEAR VS. UNCW
• Northeastern rounded out its three game road trip to North Carolina with a clean sweep in CAA play with a buzzer beating, 65-63 victory at UNCW on Saturday
• The Seahawks, who entered the game with a 16-3 record at home under Kevin Keatts, were handed their first home loss of the season
• Jeremy Miller layed in the game-winning bucket with 0.8 seconds remaining off of a feed from Caleb Donnelly. Miller finished the game with 15 points.
• Ford led with 18 points and 14 rebounds, his fourth double-double of the season
• The win was Northeastern's first in Wilmington since Jan. 26, 2011
• UNCW came out firing, but the Huskies pulled within one at halftime
• In the second half, the Seahawks raced out to a quick 10 point lead and never looked back earning the 90-73 win
• T.J. Williams went 8-for-11 from the charity stripe, career-highs for the junior
• Zach Stahl led the Huskies with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting while Quincy Ford returned and finished with 15 points on the night
 
THIS WEEK IN HUSKY BASKETBALL
• No. 6 Northeastern upset No. 3 Towson 71-60 in the quarterfinal round game of the CAA Tournament to advance on to the semifinal round for the fourth straight season
• The Huskies overcame a three-point halftime deficit and outscored Towson 42-28 in the second half en route to the victory
• The Huskies were led by seniors Quincy Ford (20 points, seven rebounds) and David Walker (18 points, 6 assists)
• Ford rallied off 11 straight points for the Huskies from the 9:08 mark of the second half until 2:10 remained in play to help Northeastern to a 64-55 lead and the eventual win.
• The Huskies will now face UNCW in a rematch of the 2015 CAA Semifinal round game, one that the Huskies won 78-71
 
TRIO OF HUSKIES HONORED
• The trio of seniors, Caleb Donnelly, Quincy Ford and David Walker were all honored by the CAA for at least the second time in their careers
• Walker was named to the All-CAA First Team, for the first time in his career after earning second team honors last season
• Ford found his way onto the All-CAA Second Team, his first second team honor after being named to the Third team in his sophomore season
• While Caleb Donnelly was honored with the prestigious Dean Ehlers Leadership Award for the second straight season
• Donnelly, who owns a 3.995 GPA and will graduate in May with a bachelor's and master's in chemical engineering with a minor in mathematics, is just the second player to earn back-to-back Dean Ehlers Award nods
• He is also the third Husky to win the Ehlers Award in the last four years; Jon Lee won in 2012-13
