BOSTON – Throughout March, the Northeastern Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) was out and about engaging with the Boston and Northeastern community through a host of events, including Relay For Life, the Team IMPACT Game Day Gala, and volunteering at local women's shelter, Rosie's Place.

Northeastern SAAC is a group of student-athletes from their respective sports that promote a positive student-athlete experience, while focusing on NU Athletics' core values of leadership, critical thinking, coach as educator, appreciation of difference and community service.

Relay for Life
SAAC's first activity of March was NU Relay For Life, hosted at Matthews Arena on March 18. It was the first time SAAC participated and raised $570 for the American Cancer Society. The women's volleyball, women's swimming and diving, women's field hockey, women's rowing, and men's and women's track and field teams represented SAAC at the event, including Jamie Bredahl, Anila Mehta, Adrienne Orriols, Katie O'Connell, Camilla Cortina, Emma Boutcher, Julia Ennis and Rosalie Caracciolo.

NURFL was filled with inspiring cancer survivors, performances from several Northeastern dance groups, tabling by many student groups and vendors, and a luminaria ceremony honoring loved ones who lost their battle to cancer.

Team IMPACT Game Day Gala
SAAC co-presidents Rachel Rosenthal and Jacqueline Garruto, and former SAAC president Chelsey Goldberg volunteered at the Team IMPACT Game Day Gala on Thursday, March 24, at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston.

The night out was an opportunity to raise money and awareness to support Team IMPACT's mission – improving the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses.

Rosenthal, Garruto and Goldberg made sure the night went off without a hitch by assisting with registration, interacting with donors and organizations, and even engaging with some Team IMPACT children. Paws was on site to entertain guests as well.

SAAC Food Drive Challenge
From March 21 through March 27, SAAC participated in the fourth annual Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Food Drive Challenge, which provided friendly competition and an opportunity to give back to surrounding communities in an effort to end the fight against hunger.

The Huskies raised 305 lbs. of food and $350, which benefited Rosie's Place, a local women's shelter that SAAC has volunteered on numerous occasions. Leading the Red and Black's donations was men's rowing with 200 items.

Rosie's Place
On Sunday, March 27, SAAC spent the evening at Rosie's Place, celebrating their 42nd anniversary since being founded in 1974. Prior to dinner, SAAC delivered the canned goods and monetary donations from the Food Drive Challenge to the shelter.

Marina Remick, Katie O'Connell, Nathalie Nidetch, Averyl Freimarck, Rachel Rosenthal, Aaron Goodman, Andrew Maglio, Trevor Appier, Kevin Meador and Elvira Stridsberg spent Easter Sunday preparing a special ham wrapped with pineapple, green beans, mashed potatoes dinner rolls and candied yams, and helped serve the feast. To top the night off, SAAC also took part in the birthday cake and ice cream celebration.
