LUBBOCK, Texas – After waiting out a two-hour lightning delay, the Northeastern women's soccer team (1-2-1) battled tooth and nail with No. 16 Texas Tech before succumbing to two second-half goals in a 2-0 Red Raiders' win on Sunday evening at the John Walker Complex.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nathalie Nidetch made eight saves and kept the Texas Tech (3-0-1) offense off the board for the first hour, before two goals in a 16-minute span put the hosts on top for good.

Northeastern enjoyed a strong first half that could have easily ended with the Huskies on top. Senior Nicole Wilkins came within inches of giving NU the lead two minutes before the break when her free kick from the top of the box beat Texas Tech keeper Lauren Watson, but struck the left post and stayed out.

Minutes after the halftime interval, Texas Tech hit the same post when a Natalie Schmutz shot from the right wing struck the woodwork behind Nidetch.

Just over 10 minutes later, TTU hit the frame of the goal once again when Jordie Harr's chip glanced off the fingertips of Nidetch and on to the bar. With the Huskies' keeper down, the ball bounced right to the feet of Schmutz, who was able to power it home into the open net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

The Red Raiders struck again in the 76th minute when Gabbie Puente collected the ball on the left wing and blasted a shot over the hands of Nidetch from the corner of the box to double the advantage.

• In total, 18 Huskies saw action in the match.
