BOSTON – Eager to tack on a second straight CAA win to Sunday's 55-47 victory against UNCW, the Northeastern women's basketball team will look to take down the league's first-place team on Friday, Jan. 27, when NU hosts Elon at 7 p.m. inside its home arena, Cabot Center. Last February against the Phoenix, four double-digit scorers backed the Huskies on Valentine's Day as NU captured a huge road victory at Elon's Alumni Gym.
Â
ALL-TIME AGAINST ELON
Â
Northeastern and Elon had never competed against each other prior to the Phoenix's arrival in the CAA at the beginning of the 2014-15 season. Although NU is 1-3 against Elon since then, the Huskies did win the most recent contest, 67-61, outscoring the Phoenix by nine points during the second half. With a win on Friday night, NU would collect its first-ever home victory against Elon in three tries and snap a three-game losing skid by the home team.
Â
TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT
Â
The Huskies' six-point victory against the Phoenix on Feb. 14, 2016, is not only the largest winning margin by either team through four all-time meetings, but is also the first contest decided by more than one possession. Elon's three series victories have been sequentially by three points (80-77, OT; Jan. 25, 2015), one point (74-73; Feb. 19, 2015), and two points (56-54; Jan. 29, 2016).
Â
HUSKIES AT HOME
Â
Northeastern's Jan. 22 victory improved the Huskies' record at Cabot Center to 4-3 during the 2016-17 season. The Huskies have also won three of their last four games and are 2-1 on their home floor in conference play.
Â
ELON ON THE ROAD
Â
Elon's eight wins away from its home floor this season rank as the most among CAA programs. Overall, the Phoenix are 6-3 in true road competitions (2-0 in neutral-site games) and 3-0 within conference play. Since Nov. 18, Elon has gone 8-2 away from Alumni Gym, dropping two single-digit games against ACC members North Carolina (L, 73-78) and No. 21 Duke (L, 61-68).
Â
COMMON OPPONENTS
Â
Considering common opponents, Northeastern is 0-4 against Delaware, Drexel, James Madison, and William & Mary, while Elon is 4-1. The Huskies have faced each of these four teams strictly once, while the Phoenix have already defeated Drexel twice. Elon's one common-opponent loss is against James Madison on Jan. 20 (L, 70-76).
Â
UP NEXT
Â
Northeastern will travel to Philadelphia on Sunday, Jan. 29, to return its Jan. 8 home game against Drexel at the Dragons' Daskalaskis Center. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
