BOSTON – The No. 5/6 Northeastern women's hockey team (2-1-1) will face its second top-10 opponent of the young season when it travels to No. 8/8 Colgate for a pair of games this weekend. The teams will square off Saturday at 6 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend set Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Huskies and Raiders have met twice in the past with Northeastern holding a 2-0-0 record. In the teams' most recent meeting on Oct. 5, 2012, the Huskies skated to a 4-0 victory in Hamilton, N.Y. as
Paige Savage, Jordan Hampton, Kendall Coyne and Katie MacSorley lit the lamp.
LAST TIME OUT
Northeastern is coming off a weekend sweep over rival Boston University on Oct. 6-7. On Friday, the Huskies overturned a 2-0 second-period deficit as
Kasidy Anderson and
Taytum Clairmont scored four minutes apart late in the frame to tie the score through 40 minutes. After a scoreless third period,
Matti Hartman won the game at 2:21 of the overtime period to give NU the 3-2 win.
The following day,
McKenna Brand led the way with two goals and an assist, while
Denisa Krizova,
Tori Sullivan and
Veronika Pettey each added a pair of points to seal the weekend sweep.
PETTEY NAMED WHEA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
With her first three collegiate points last weekend, freshman forward
Veronika Pettey was named the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week in Hockey East on Monday. Pettey assisted on
Matti Hartman's overtime winner against the Terriers on Oct. 6, and then chipped in an assist and her first collegiate goal the following day as Northeastern skated to a 6-3 victory. Through four games, Pettey is one of six Huskies with at least three points so far this season.
HUSKIES MOVE UP IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
Northeastern moved up in both national polls this week, climbing to No. 5 in the USA Hockey/USA Today poll, and No. 6 in the USCHO.com poll. The Huskies' current ranking represents NU's highest mark since Feb. 1, 2016 when the Red & Black were also slotted at No. 5/6 in the USA Hockey and USCHO polls, respectively.
KRIZOVA CLIMBS THE CHARTS
Senior forward
Denisa Krizova enters the weekend as the 10th-highest scorer in program history with 141 career points in 108 games. With three more points, the Czech Republic native will leap Jill Toney (143 points) for ninth place in the record books. Krizova (89 career assists) also needs just seven more assists to surpass Hilary Witt for the fourth-most helpers in program history.
FLINT WINS 100th WHEA GAME
With two victories over BU on Oct. 6-7, head coach
Dave Flint earned his 100th and 101st career wins in Hockey East play. Since taking over the reigns of the program in 2008, Flint has amassed a 101-59-16 record in WHEA action, good for a .619 winning percentage.
