BOSTON, Mass. – The Northeastern women's hockey team (19-10-3, 14-7-2 WHEA) will look to close out the regular season on a winning note when it heads across town to face Boston University (15-10-6, 10-8-4) on Friday at 7 p.m. The Huskies have won six of their last seven games entering Friday's regular season finale.
STORYLINES
• Northeastern will be going for the regular season sweep of Boston University for the first time in the Hockey East era on Friday. The Terriers joined WHEA prior to the 2005-06 season, and have won at least one league game against the Huskies in every season since.Â
• The Huskies beat BU by a 6-2 score at Matthews Arena on Oct. 18, before handing the Terriers a 4-3 defeat at Walter Brown Arena on Oct. 25. Northeastern has prevailed in five of its last six WHEA games against Boston University dating back to last year.Â
• With a win on Friday, Northeastern would secure its fourth 20-win season in the last six years. The Huskies would become the 10th Division-I program to post at least four 20-win campaigns in the last six seasons, joining Boston College, Boston University, Clarkson, Harvard, Mercyhurst, Minnesota, North Dakota, Quinnipiac and Wisconsin.
• A win on Friday would give NU its 15th 20-win season in program history.Â
• Northeastern enters Friday's matchup with an 11-2-1 record on the road this season. The Huskies' 11 road wins are tied for the third-most in a season in the NU record books; the program mark for most road wins in a season is 14 set by the 1996-97 team.
• The Huskies most recently ended Boston College's NCAA-record 63-game home unbeaten streak on Feb. 10 with a 2-1 win at Conte Forum. Sophomore
Brittany Bugalski made a career-high 46 saves to help NU secure its first victory over BC in its last 17 tries.
• Bugalski was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after stopping 68 of a possible 71 shots (.958 save percentage) in two games vs. No. 6 Boston College last week. Bugalski has earned the weekly honor four times this season, and has twice been named the league's Goaltender of the Month (October, January).
HUSKIESÂ SHINEÂ ONÂ INTERNATIONALÂ STAGE
Three Northeastern standouts turned in impressive performances at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Olympic qualifiers in Arosa, Switzerland on Feb. 9-12. Alumna Florence Schelling backstopped Switzerland to a berth in the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, while junior
Denisa Krizova and alumna Lucie Povova both starred for a Czech Republic team that won two of three games at the event. Schelling did not allow more than one goal in any of the three games and finished as the top netminder in the tournament with a 3-0-0 record, a 1.00 GAA and a .941 save percentage (48 saves on 51 shots).Â
Krizova notched at least one point in all three games at the Olympic qualifiers, and finished as the Czech Republic's leading scorer (and the fourth-highest scorer at the event) with four points on two goals and two assists. Krizova was named the Czech player of the game after a 5-0 win over Norway, during which the Northeastern junior scored two goals.Â
Povova also distinguished herself as a go-to player on the Czech team with a goal and an assist in three contests. The NU alumna notched an assist against Norway on Feb. 9 and scored against Denmark two games later. Povova also finished the tournament with the fifth-highest faceoff percentage among all players with a 54.5 percent clip.Â
BUGALSKIÂ EARNSÂ FOURTHÂ WEEKLYÂ HONOR
For the fourth time this season, sophomore goaltender
Brittany Bugalski was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the league office. Bugalski turned aside 68 of a possible 71 shots (.958 save percentage) last week in helping Northeastern earn a split against No. 6 Boston College.Â
On Tuesday in the Beanpot final, Bugalski made 22 saves en route to earning the Bertagna Award for the tournament's top goaltender. Over the course of two Beanpot games, Bugalski made 50 saves and posted a 1.50 GAA and a .943 save percentage to become the fourth netminder in program history to take home the Beanpot's goaltending prize.Â
