BOSTON – The Northeastern women's hockey team (22-12-3) battled to the end, but came up just short in a bid for the program's first Hockey East tournament title in a 2-1 overtime loss to Boston College (27-5-5) on Sunday in the league championship game at Walter Brown Arena.
Sophomore
Kasidy Anderson gave Northeastern the lead with a spectacular individual effort late in the first period, before BC equalized minutes into the second stanza. The scoreline held into overtime as goaltenders
Brittany Bugalski (32 saves) and Katie Burt (31 saves) put on a show between the pipes, but in the end, the Eagles were able to claim the crown when Andie Anastos slipped a shot inside the left post 5:44 into the extra session.
The Eagles held a 34-32 advantage in shots on goal, including all seven attempts in overtime. Anderson and Anastos each posted six shots to lead their respective teams.Â
Goal Recaps
• Northeastern struck first at the 17:23 mark of the first period on a beautiful individual play by Anderson. Following a save by Bugalski, Anderson scooped up the puck in the defensive zone and weaved through three BC players, before rifling a shot over the blocker of Burt from the right circle to make it 1-0 Huskies.
• The Eagles pulled even just under three minutes into the second stanza when Kali Flanagan ripped a point-shot into the upper left corner of the net on a power play at 2:57.
• After a scoreless third period, BC won the game just over five minutes into overtime when Andie Anastos fired a shot inside the left post from the left circle to give the Eagles the win.
Noteworthy
• The 2017 Hockey East championship was the third final in league history to be decided in overtime (2010 and 2012). The final score in each of those games was 2-1.Â
• The result was the third straight 2-1 final between BC and Northeastern.
• Sophomore
Kasidy Anderson scored her team-high 10th goal since the turn of the new year.
• In 17 games since the start of 2017, Anderson recorded 15 points.

Brittany Bugalski finished the season with 21 wins, tied for the fourth-most in a year in program history.
• Northeastern finished the 2016-17 season with 22 wins – tied for the ninth-most in a season in program history.
• The Huskies have won 50 games over the last two seasons, which is the most in a two-season span since 1997-99 when NU won 51 combined games.
