BOSTON – Coming off Friday's 54-47 victory at UNCW, the Northeastern women's basketball team will look to sweep its CAA road trip through North Carolina on Sunday, Jan. 7, when the Huskies square off against the defending league champion, Elon, during a 2 p.m. tipoff at Alumni Gym. NU has won four of its last five games away from Cabot Center and can claim its first-ever 3-1 start to CAA play with a victory against the Phoenix.

ALL-TIME AGAINST ELON

Northeastern has recorded one victory during six all-time meetings against Elon, although three of the Huskies' five series defeats have come by one possession. The two programs met for the first time on Jan. 25, 2015, at Alumni Gym following the Phoenix's move to the CAA at the beginning of the 2014-15 season. Northeastern is 1-2 all-time when opposing Elon at Alumni Gym. Kelly Cole and Charlotte Smith have been the respective head coaches of the Huskies and the Phoenix during all six series meetings.

FRIDAY'S TAKEAWAYS

• Northeastern won its second straight CAA road game on Friday, Jan. 5, defeating UNCW, 54-47, at Trask Coliseum. With the victory, the Huskies have won each of their first two conference road games for the first time since the 1994-95 America East season.

• Junior point guard Jess Genco led the Huskies against the Seahawks, scoring a game high, 21 points, while also registering three rebounds, five assists, and a career high, six steals. Genco was named the #CAAHoops Player of the Night for Jan. 5 upon receiving 44 percent of @CAABasketball's Twitter fan vote.

• NU topped UNCW on Friday despite posting its second-lowest field goal percentage of the season (33.3). The Huskies' defense helped contain the Seahawks, limiting UNCW to 31.6 percent shooting from the field and forcing 25 turnovers – the most NU has created out of an opponent this season. Northeastern capitalized on its +12 advantage in turnovers to gain a 24-9 edge in points off turnovers.

• Three-time CAA Rookie of the Week Stella Clark led the Huskies' bench with 11 points, recording her sixth double-digit scoring game of the season. Clark paces the CAA in freshman scoring at 10.9 points per game.

• Northeastern improved to 4-2 during true road games and has celebrated five of its seven victories this season away from Cabot Center.

TRENDING UPWARD

Northeastern's 17 combined CAA victories (17-19) spanning the 2015-16 (9-9 CAA) and 2016-17 (8-10 CAA) seasons are the most NU has ever achieved during consecutive conference campaigns within the league. The Huskies' 19 CAA wins since the beginning of the 2015-16 season also rank in a tie for the fifth most among tenured schools during that stretch:

NORTHEASTERN'S CAA START

• The Huskies (2-1 CAA) enter Sunday in sole possession of fourth place in the league standings, one half game ahead of Elon (1-1 CAA), which is tied for fifth place with Delaware (1-1 CAA).

• Northeastern is averaging 60.3 points per CAA game, while holding all three of its league opponents at or under 61 points.

• Jess Genco has led the Huskies in scoring during two of their three conference games and is averaging 16.7 points per league outing.

• Northeastern has won two of the three #CAAHoops Player of the Night fan votes, as hosted by @CAABasketball on Twitter. Gabby Giacone won the season's inaugural poll on Dec. 29 after double-doubling against Towson (15 points, 10 rebounds). Jess Genco topped the Twitter poll following her 21-point, six-steal effort against UNCW on Jan. 5.
