BROOKLINE, Mass. – Despite sporting an 11-shot advantage in total attempts on Thursday night against Drexel, the Northeastern women's soccer team was unable to counter Lauren Currey's first half goal as the Huskies lost their penultimate CAA match of the season, 1-0, at Parsons Field.
Â
Northeastern (9-8-1, 6-2-0 CAA) witnessed plenty of scoring chances throughout the evening, orchestrating two convincing goal-scoring opportunities during the opening 20 minutes.
Mikenna McManus and
Nicole Gorman worked together to win
Kerri Zerfoss a one-on-one attempt during the 10th minute, while six minutes later,
Hannah Rosenblatt curled her 18-yard free kick just inches over the crossbar.
Â
Drexel (6-6-5, 3-4-1 CAA) broke the scoreless tie during the 32nd minute, when Currey intercepted the Huskies' midfield ball, initiating her give-and-go, counter-attack with Morgan Rees to put the Dragons ahead.
Â
Playing from behind, Northeastern rallied to post a 14-3 edge in total attempts, racking up eight attempts on target.
Valentina Soares Gache and Rosenblatt's back-to-back attempts during the 50th minute were both denied by Drexel team saves, while
Shannon Simmons' through ball to Zerfoss – creating a one-on-one try during the 67th minute – was stopped by Libby Baeza.
