BOSTON – The Northeastern men's basketball team will kick off the 2018-19 season against crosstown rival Boston University tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. at Matthews Arena.

The game will be broadcast live on NESN, but for those of you outside the New England region, you can still find the stream on NUHuskies.com/watch.

The two teams will square off in the season opener for the ninth-straight season and the 148th time overall as Northeastern begins its 99th season as a basketball program.

Heading into tomorrow's opener, here are a few things to look for.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. Bringing back the offense

  • Heading into this season, Northeastern will return 90.4 percent of its offense from 2017-18, a number that ranks 13th in the nation
  • The majority of the offense lost was in part to departing senior Devon Begley who averaged 6.3 ppg for Northeastern in 2017-18
  • Northeastern returns a pair of double-digit scorers in Vasa Pusica (17.9 ppg) and Shawn Occeus (10.8 ppg)
  • The Huskies will face two teams who actually return more returning offense this season in Harvard (99.4) and Syracuse (93.8)

Rank Team Returning Offense
1. George Mason 100.0
2. Harvard 99.4
3. Wofford 96.0
4. Washington 95.9
5. Brown 95.3
6. Iowa 94.9

  1. Season Opening Stats

  • The Huskies are 50-48 all-time in season openers dating back to the 1920-21 season.
  • Northeastern is 8-3 in its last 11 season openers, winning seven of the last eight games, all of which have come against the Terriers
  • Bill Coen has won nine of his season opening games at Northeastern.
  • The Huskies have opened the season against BU just nine times in the history of the program, the last eight seasons and then again in the 1972-73 season
  • Northeastern is 3-0 all-time in season openers at home against Boston University

  1. Tackling the Terriers

SCOUTING BU
  • Boston University returns four starters from a team that reached the Patriot League semifinals in 2017-18
  • BU was selected to finish fourth overall in the Patriot League Poll, but received a pair of first-place votes

LEADING THE WAY
  • The Terriers are a young squad in 2018-19, with just one senior in guard Kamali Chambers
  • All-PL forward Max Mahoney is the top returning after averaging a team-high 12.9 points with 4.8 rebounds per game and shooting a school-record 60.1 percent from the field
  • Junior forward Tyler Scanlon also averaged double figures (10.5 ppg) and led the team in rebounds (5.5 rpg), assists (3.0 apg) and steals (44)

ALL-TIME SERIES
  • The two teams have met 147 times in the past, in a series that dates back to Northeastern's first year as a varsity program in 1920-21
  • After coming away with a win in last year's season opener, Northeastern has taken a slight lead in the series, 74-73
  • The Huskies have won seven of the last nine games between the two foes with BU's two victories coming on their turf (2016) and at the Boston Garden (2013)
  • Northeastern has won its last three home games against the Terriers
  • The Huskies are 37-34 all-time at home against Boston University
