DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore
Aerin Frankel pitched her NCAA-leading fourth shutout of the season with 26 saves to propel the No. 6 Northeastern women's hockey team to its eighth straight win, 3-0 at New Hampshire on Friday.
Freshmen
Alina Mueller and
Chloe Aurard each recorded a goal and an assist, and sophomore
Brooke Hobson also found the back of the net as the Huskies (9-1-1, 8-0-1 WHEA) improved to 5-0-1 on the road this season.
After a scoreless opening period, Mueller broke the tie with a shorthanded goal 20 seconds into the second stanza after she intercepted a pass by UNH netminder Kyra Smith (40 saves) and tucked the puck into an open net. The goal extended Mueller's point-streak to 10 straight games.
Hobson doubled the lead at 14:31 of the second period, wristing a shot into the top left corner from between the circles after some great work along the boards by Aurard.
Aurora then put the game away 3:29 into the third, finishing a rebound in the low slot after a shot by senior
Kasidy Anderson.
Frankel was outstanding from start to finish, making six stops in the first, 14 saves in the second, and six more stops in the third to lower her GAA to an NCAA-best 0.67, and her save percentage to a national-leading .974.
The Briarcliff Manor, New York native has allowed only goal in five starts against WHEA opponents this season, and has stopped 123 of 124 shots in those games, good for a .992 save percentage.
Northeastern will look to cap the weekend with another win on Saturday as UNH visits Matthews Arena for a 2 p.m. puck drop.
