BURLINGTON, Vt.
– The Northeastern men's basketball team never stopped fighting, but was unable to come away with the win falling 75-70 Sunday afternoon to Vermont at Patrick Gymnasium. The win marked Vermont's first over the Huskies since the 2012-13 season.

Northeastern (5-6) was led by Jordan Roland's game-high 20-point effort, his fifth game this season with at least 20 points, while Jason Strong added 13 points and six rebounds and Donnell Gresham had 12 points and a pair of assists.

Bolden Brace came alive for the Huskies at the end of the game, knocking down a set of 3-pointers and make it a game, finishing with 11 points and six rebounds on the day.

Vermont (8-3) was led by Anthony Lamb's 17 point effort, despite the junior being held to just one basket by the Northeastern bigs during the first half of play.

FIRST HALF
Northeastern netted the first basket of the game on a running jumper by Roland, and then Vermont went off on a 7-0 run. Brace ended that stretch with a layup, and-one, Roland followed with a three, and Strong added his own and-one for a 9-0 run to give the Huskies a 11-7 advantage.

From there, the battle began. The two teams went back-and-forth for the remainder of the first half and ended the stanza knotted at 29-all.

Following the under-eight media, Myles Franklin checked in and immediately kept Ernie Duncan at bay forcing him to take an off balance three from deep in the corner with time running out. Franklin then gathered up the rebound and quickly sent an outlet pass to Roland who slammed it down on the other end -- forcing Vermont to call a timeout with the Huskies up 22-19 after a fast 5-0 run.

Vermont hit back-to-back buckets out of the timeout to regain the lead, and the Huskies exchanged baskets down the stretch to finish the 20 minute period where they started. All tied up.

SECOND HALF
It was more of the same to start the second half with the teams trading baskets, until Vermont managed to get out to its then-largest lead of the day, 46-39, due to consecutive foul calls against the Huskies. After an Anthony Lamb layup to give the Catamounts the eight-point advantage, Bill Coen called a timeout to settle things.

The teams went back to trading baskets, and fouls, but Vermont continued to slowly add to its lead getting out to as much as 62-49 with 2:50 left in the ball game.

Northeastern's full court defense stepped up down the stretch, forcing a few Vermont turnovers, and the Huskies' three-point shooting, from Brace and Strong, got them back within six, 67-61 with ninety seconds to go, but the Huskies did not have enough time to complete the comeback.
