BOSTON
– With a balanced scoring attack and a 70.6 second half shooting percentage, the Northeastern men's basketball team defeated St. Bonaventure 64-59 on Friday afternoon as the Huskies wrapped up their non-conference season with a win at Matthews Arena.

Vasa Pusica returned to the lineup, and led the way finishing with a team-high 16 points while adding seven assists. Eleven of those 16 points came in the second period where he was a perfect 3-of-3 from the field.

Anthony Green was the other Husky scorer that tallied double digits and was huge down the stretch for Northeastern (6-6), finishing a perfect 5-of-5 from the field with 11 points, six rebounds and a pair of blocks.

The duo combined to give Northeastern a five-point, 60-55, lead late in the game and put things out of reach. Nine of the 10 Huskies who got in the game finished with a basket.

St. Bonaventure (4-8) was led by Courtney Stockard who had a game-high 17 points while Jalen Poyser added 12 and Kyle Lofton had 11.

FIRST HALF
The Bonnies got on the board first with a three – and the Huskies followed that with a Green slam and a pair of threes from Jordan Roland and Bolden Brace as they began things with an 8-0 run. St. Bonaventure responded with a similar run until Roland ended that with a deep trey with 11:32 to go in the half.

Both teams fought back and forth for the remainder of the half, with seven Huskies netting at least one basket during the stanza.

St. Bonaventure was held without a field goal for nearly seven minutes before a Stockard three, however, they were able to keep themselves with the game thanks to their free throw shooting. A strong Jason Strong layup, with time winding down on the shotclock put the Huskies up 27-25 at the break.

SECOND HALF
The Bonnies hit two quick buckets in the second half and Bill Coen called his first timeout of the game. St. Bonaventure held the advantage until the Huskies raced out on a 10-0 run spanning 2:20 and a 17-3 run over a five minute span that got them out to a 47-38 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game.

St. Bonaventure would not go away and was able to tie the game at 55-all with 3:33 to go. But that is where the Huskies ended things. Pusica was fouled shooting a three and headed to the line for three free throws, sinking them all.

On the next possession, he found Green streaking to the basket, where Green slammed down a dunk with emphasis to give the Huskies a little breathing room and forcing Mark Schmidt to call a timeout. Three-straight free throws built the Huskies lead to eight with 15 seconds to go, and helped seal the win.
