BOSTON– Despite a duo of double-doubles from
Bolden Brace and Donnell Gresham, and five double-digit Husky scorers, the Northeastern men's basketball team fell 82-80 in double overtime to Delaware on Sunday afternoon.
Brace finished the day with an 18-point, 10-rebound effort while also adding six assists. while Gresham chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds. Also finishing with double-digit scoring is
Jordan Roland (15),
Anthony Green (13) and
Vasa Pusica (11).
Delaware was led by Ithiel Horton, who put up 27 points on the night, while Ryan Allen added 19 and Eric Carter netted 18 points and 10 rebounds.
FIRST HALF
The Huskies got out to a quick 6-0 lead thanks to back-to-back treys from Brace, with some assistance from Pusica.
The Huskies continued to build on their lead over the next 15 minutes of action, and reached its largest lead of the half, ahead of the Blue Hens 27-15 with just over five minutes to play, but Delaware went on an 13-2 run over the next three minutes to make it a one-point game.
With 1:18 left in the first, the Huskies finally got a stop under the basket and used it to go on a 5-1 run, sparked by a Gresham three-pointer, and headed to the locker room on top, 34-29.
SECOND HALF
Delaware came out in the second and evened the score with the first two baskets of the half, before the Huskies raced out on an 8-2 run, over a three-minute span that created some space, 42-36. But the Blue Hens did not go away.
Delaware gained their first edge of the game 43-42 following a Horton layup, and after Gresham tied the game, the Blue Hens got out to a four-point lead behind a Horton trey midway through the stanza.
The Huskies answered by holding Delaware scoreless for a three minute stretch, during which they scored eight-straight points, but once again the Blue Hens answered back and forced overtime on an Carter layup.
OVERTIME
The Blue Hens started the first OT period off with back-to-back buckets, which
Tomas Murphy answered with a trey. After trading free throws, a
Shawn Occeus layup put the Huskies up 71-70, but once again Carter evened the score with a free throw, forcing another overtime period.
In the second overtime, the Huskies gained a three-point edge thanks to a pair of Green dunks, but Delaware was once again able to tie things up, and took a two-point lead, 79-77 with two minutes to go and were able to hang on for the win.

The Huskies begin a three-game conference road swing, starting at Hofstra next Saturday, Jan. 5 when the two teams square off at 4 p.m.
