Women’s rowing alumna captures gold at Pan American Games qualifier

USRowing Release

BOSTON – Northeastern women's rowing alumna Jen Forbes qualified for the 2019 Pan American Games by winning her qualifier in the single sculls over the weekend.

Forbes, competing for the United States at the qualification regatta at the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, won the event by more than three seconds to earn the right to represent the U.S. at the Pan Am games next summer. In the final, Forbes crossed the line in an 8:09.27 to finish ahead of Argentina's Maria Sol Ordas' 8:12.37. Trinidad and Tobago's Felice Chow finished third in an 8:13.64.

The 2019 Pan American Games will take place July 26-August 11, 2019, in Lima, Peru.

During her time at Northeastern, Forbes battled through countless back injuries while rowing in the first varsity all four years. She went on to win a silver medal at the Under-23 World Championships as part of the eights boat. She continued to row after college, both at the Princeton Training Center and for the Potomac Boat Club.

Back in Boston, the Huskies will kickoff the 2019 season on March 30 at the Orange Challenge Cup against Syracuse and Penn in Cherry Hill, N.J.
