TOWSON, Md. – The Tigers made it interesting early in the second half, but the Northeastern men's basketball team came away with a 15-point, 77-62 victory at Towson's SECU Arena for their 10
th conference win of the season.
The 10 CAA wins mark the fifth time during the
Bill Coen-era that the Huskies have recorded double-digit conference victories and the most since the 2014-15 season (12-6).
An 11-point halftime lead grew into as much as a 17-point second half advantage thanks to 72.2 percent shooting from the field in the second half by the Huskies en route to the victory.
After Mike Morsell made it a six-point game, 59-53, with just under eight minutes to go, the Huskies went out on a 10-0 run holding Towson scoreless for three-and-a-half minutes.
Vasa Pusica sealed the run, and ultimately the win, with a dagger of a 3-pointer from NBA range.
Pusica once again led the Huskies (17-9, 10-4 CAA) with his third-straight 20-point effort with 23 points, four rebounds and four assists on the day.
Devon Begley tied his best effort of the season with 14 points and eight rebounds, and
Bolden Brace added 10 points, including a pair of clutch threes.
Morsell finished with 17 points for Towson (17-10, 7-7) while Zane Martin led the Tigers with a 21-point effort, 15 of those points coming in the second half.
The Huskies headed into the locker room at the half with an 11-point lead due to their three-point shooting. Northeastern was 6-for-13 during the half from behind the arc, while holding the Tigers scoreless from deep.
After Towson closed the gap to six nearly five minutes into the second half, the Huskies jumped out with a quick 6-0 run in just one minute's time forcing Skerry to call an early timeout with the Huskies up 48-36. Eddie Keith halted the skid, but the Huskies rallied off another five points for an extended 11-2 run and another Skerry timeout.
Entering the contest, Towson led the conference in field goal pct. defense allowing 41.8 shooting from the field and was second (to the Huskies) allowing just .376 from behind the arc. The Huskies finished shooting 57.1 percent from the field and 52.6 from deep.
