ELON, N.C – Selected to finish sixth this season in the Colonial Athletic Association preseason poll, the Northeastern men's basketball team earned its seventh-straight victory to close out the regular season and earn a share of the CAA Regular Season Title on Saturday night with an 81-59 victory at Elon.

The Huskies finished the regular season with a 21-9 record, the most regular season wins by a Northeastern team since the 1986-87 Huskies finished with a 23-6 regular season record.

The Huskies have now earned their 13th regular season conference championship and their third CAA regular season title since joining the league in the 2005-06 season.

Vasa Pusica paced the Huskies for the 17th time this season finishing with a career-high tying 31 points, including a 9-for-9 effort from the free throw line. He also added four assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals on the night.

Shawn Occeus finished his night with 13 points, a career-high tying six steals and five rebounds. With his six steals Occeus now has 61 on the season, 7th most by a Husky in a single-season tying Reggie Lewis (1985-86) and Chaisson Allen (2010-11).

Donnell Gresham and Bolden Brace each also added 11 points each in the win.

Elon was led by Brian Dawkins' 13 point, seven-rebound effort while Tyler Seibring added 12 and Dmitri Thompson and Steven Santa Ana each added 10 on the night.

The two teams battled back and forth through the first 17 minutes of action with Northeastern holding just a 30-26 lead at the final media timeout with 2:26 left in the first. But the Huskies finished out the half with an 8-0 run, making their last five baskets in the first half, which included four treys as they got out to a 41-28 halftime lead.

Occeus finished the first half with four points, five rebounds, and five steals, earning his fourth 5-plus steal game early on of the season.

Elon came out firing, outscoring the Huskies 18-9 through the first eight-and-a-half minutes of play, including an 11-2 run that saw four Husky turnovers and was capped off by a Seibring trey to make it a 50-47 ballgame at the under-12 media.

Tomas Murphy then hit a pair of free throws, Occeus connected on a jumper, and Brace slammed one down to go out on a quick 6-0 run and regain some control.

Seibring connected on three straight baskets for the Phoenix but the Huskies finished the half on a 19-6 run, making 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch. Pusica sealed the win with a trey with 43 seconds remaining as the Huskies came away with the win.
