BOSTON – Returning to the pitch for its 23rd season, the Northeastern women's soccer team will kick off its 2018 campaign with an early non-conference test at home on Friday, Aug. 17, when the Huskies entertain Connecticut at Parsons Field during both teams' regular season opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Northeastern is proudly inviting the communities of Brookline, Boston, and nearby towns to attend Friday's match as the Huskies celebrate Community Night.
5 THINGS TO WATCH 4
• Northeastern will host Connecticut for the first time at Parsons Field, having split its previous two matches – both regular season openers (2011, 2016) – at Morrone Stadium in Storrs. NU won the two programs' inaugural 2011 meeting, 2-1, prior to playing to a goal short of No. 15 UConn, 1-0, on Aug. 19, 2016 –
Ashley Phillips' first career match as the head coach of Northeastern.
• During the last five seasons, Northeastern has advanced to four CAA championship matches, pairing CAA postseason titles with NCAA tournament appearances three times (2013, 2014, 2016). Nine members of the Huskies' 2016 NCAA tournament team remain on the team's 2018 roster.
• Northeastern set the program's single-season record for goals scored during 2017 (41). The Huskies retain 71 percent of their offensive production from a year ago: nine players that combined to yield 29 goals.
• Senior forward
Hannah Rosenblatt will begin 2018 as Northeastern's active leading career goal scorer (22). Rosenblatt joined senior goalkeeper
Nathalie Nidetch and sophomore defender
Julianne Ross as the Huskies' three Preseason All-CAA honorees.
•
Nathalie Nidetch enters the 2018 season having allowed two goals during her last five matches (0.38 GAA). Nidetch led the CAA in goals against average (0.84) and save percentage (.843) during 2017 while keeping a league high, nine clean sheets.
