LONG BEACH, Calif. – Despite making a late charge, the Northeastern women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback at Long Beach State on Friday evening.
Senior
Eve Goulet, the reigning CAA Defensive Player of the Week, headed home a
Mikenna McManus corner kick in the 83rd minute to pull the Huskies within one, but Northeastern (1-2-0) would get no closer as the 49ers (2-1-0) held on at home.
Long Beach State opened the scoring in the 7th minute when Ashley Gonzales looped a shot over the head of
Nathalie Nidetch from the left wing.
Gonzales then turned provider in the 57th minute, sending a ball into the box for Katie Pingel to fire home.
The game was evenly-played throughout as both teams registered nine shots; Northeastern held a 7-6 advantage in attempts on frame.
Redshirt freshman keeper
Megan Adams saw her first 14 minutes of collegiate action and made a big save on Pingel late in the game.
The Huskies will complete their west coast road trip on Sunday at Loyola Marymount (4 p.m. ET).
