Denton, Texas – Northeastern (2-1) wrapped up their last game at the North Texas Invitational with a 3-2 win over Nicholls State (1-3).
Hannah Boyd added to her success in the tournament on Saturday afternoon, tallying 13 kills, 40 attacks and 17.5 points for the Huskies.
Samantha Shupe recorded a season-high 41 assists on the day and led the team with a .545 hitting percentage.
North Texas released an All-Tournament team that included Shupe and teammate,
Taylor Reiter who tabbed ten kills, 25 attacks and 13.5 points against the Colonels.
The Howlin' Huskies started with an early 5-3 lead. However, an effort by Nicholls State pulled them ahead 11-8 by the middle of the set. NU went on a late 7-1 scoring run to retake their lead, but ultimately lost the first set, 25-21.
The Colonels' momentum carried into the second set where they scored the first three points before the Huskies got on the board on a Nicholls State attack error. The Huskies kept the middle of the set close before pulling ahead 18-13. NU held their lead and topped the second set, 25-17.
Despite an early, 5-1, lead in the third set, NU cannot hold on to take the win. A mid-set run by the Colonels ties the two at 15. The Huskies stay close until Nicholls State pulls away late to take the set on a service ace, 25-23.
The Huskies, again, start the fourth set with an early lead over the Colonels, 9-4 and hold it through the set. Shupe's four kills in the set lead NU to win, 25-14.
The Colonels played the deciding set close, but the Huskies slip ahead to take the fifth set, 15-13, and win the match.
