BROOKLINE, Mass. – Pushed to extra time for the fourth time this season, the Northeastern women's soccer team dug deep on Sunday at Parsons Field and pulled yet another golden goal out of its tricks as sophomore
Katarina Nilsson found the back of the net during the 98th minute, lifting the Huskies to the 1-0, CAA victory against UNCW.
Â
Valentina Soares Gache triggered the counter attack for Northeastern (5-6-1, 2-0-0 CAA) that led to Nilsson's match-winner. The senior captain won the ball from the Seahawks in the backfield, turned, and made a 40-yard run up the midfield, leading Nilsson with a pass along the right flank.
Â
Nilsson received Soares Gache's ball in stride and advanced into the Huskies' 18-yard box, delivering a low, crossing shot that knocked off the back post and in. The goal marked the second of Nilsson's career and her second during as many matches (Sept. 20 at Delaware).
Â
Northeastern directed six of its 16 attempts on target while limiting UNCW (6-2-0, 0-1-0 CAA) to a solitary shot on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Nathalie Nidetch kept her 17th career clean sheet, making one save, which took place during the 80th minute.
Â
With Sunday's victory, the Huskies remained unbeaten during extra-time matches this season (3-0-1). Sunday also marked the Seahawks' first competitive match since Sept. 6 due to Hurricane Florence.
