HANOVER, N.H. – Pushed by Dartmouth into extra time after grasping a quick, 2-0 lead during the opening 25 minutes of play on Friday, the Northeastern women's soccer team caught lightning in a bottle during the 107th minute, when
Kerri Zerfoss directed
Shannon Simmons' cross in for the golden goal to lift the Huskies to the 3-2 victory at Burnham Field.
Â
Zerfoss attempted five shots for Northeastern (3-4-0) and directed three on target during 71 reserve minutes, leading to her volley of Simmons' ball, which hugged the right end line on its way into the six-yard box. The goal marked the sixth of Zerfoss' career and her third match-winner, while it simultaneously provided Simmons with her first collegiate point (12th appearance).
Â
Chelsea Domond found her way onto the scoring sheet for the first time this season, booting
Mikenna McManus' pass through during the 20th minute.
Less than three minutes later,Â
Hannah Rosenblatt doubled the Huskies' lead to 2-0, curling in her unassisted strike from the top of the 18-yard box. With 25 career goals (three this season), Rosenblatt is now tied for fourth place on the schools' all-time scoring list.
Â
Dartmouth (2-3-0) chipped a goal off Northeastern's lead shortly before halftime as Chloe Conacher headed in Lorna MacFarlane's corner from the left flag. Erin Kawakami later leveled the match at 2-2 during the 58th minute – one of 10 shots on target that traveled in the direction of
Nathalie Nidetch, who made a season high, eight saves.
Â
Friday's victory marked Northeastern's second extra-time win during its last three matches and extended the Huskies' series winning streak against the Big Green to two in a row.
