Fairfield, Conn. – Northeastern (2-5) dropped a three set match to Michigan State (6-1) on Friday afternoon, despite a strong showing in the second and third sets.

Sophomore outside hitter,
Athena Ardila, led the Huskies with nine kills for nine points against the Spartans, while
Samantha Shupe tabbed 24 assists, three digs and two blocks. Senior,
Taylor Reiter totaled the highest hitting percentage at .231 with 13 total attacks in the match.

The Howlin' Huskies kept good pace with the Spartans in the first set. After dropping an early couple of points, NU equalized the score at 12. They kept the score even until the Spartans pulled ahead, 16-14 before a Husky timeout. MSU was able to hold their lead to eventually take the first set, 25-16.

The second set proved to be the most successful for the Huskies, losing only, 26-24. The score during this set stayed even throughout and NU tied it up at 23, bringing energy to the court. After an MSU timeout, the Spartans came back to steal the lead from the Huskies and win the second set.

NU continued their success in the third set, keeping the score close throughout the first half. The Huskies took their biggest lead of the match at 18-14 in the middle of the third set. However, the Spartans came back to retake the lead and win the third set, 25-20 to end the match.
