Fairfield, Conn. – Northeastern (4-5) dominated over Central Connecticut (2-6) and Fairfield (1-8), 3-1, in both their matches on Saturday at the Fairfield Invitational
NU vs. CCSU

Gabrielle Tschannen and
Hannah Boyd both had impressive showings against the Blue Devils. Sophomore, Tschannen, tabbed 21 points, 16 kills, six blocks and a .414 hitting percentage, proving her most successful match of the 2018 season. Rookie, Boyd, tallied her most points of the season with 19.5 as a result of her 18 kills.

The Huskies' libero,
Gabrielle Eyl, served three aces in the match. She was closely followed by
Samantha Shupe,
Sherrie Wang and Tschannen who tallied two service aces apiece.Â

The first set proved a close one for the Huskies and Blue Devils, staying within two points almost the entire set. NU took their biggest lead of four points at, 15-11 but CCSU was able to come back and keep it close. However, the Huskies inched ahead to win the first set, 26-24.

The Howlin' Huskies took control of the match in the second set, after a four point run to take the lead, 10-6. They continually increased their lead over the Blue Devils, until they finally won the set, 25-13, to put them up two sets to none.

NU's momentum carried into the third set, where they led by seven at one point. However, the Huskies had trouble closing out the third set to win the match and allowed CCSU to comeback and win, 25-23.

Early in the fourth set, it seemed the Blue Devils were working the court to make a run for another set win, but the Huskies ran away with the lead in the middle of the set. They were able to hold the advantage until the end, winning the fourth set, 25-19.

NU vs FFD
Natalie Shollin shone through for the Huskies in this second match, tallying 15 points, 13 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Boyd also put up impressive numbers with 14.5 points and 14 kills.

The Stags got off to a hot start in the first set, leading the Howlin' Huskies, 9-3. It was a lead that they held throughout the set. Despite a 5-1 run by the Huskies late in the set, the Stags secured it, 25-18.

Fairfield's momentum seemed to follow into the second set as they held a tight lead over the Huskies almost the entire set. NU took their first lead over the Stags at 21-20. A rallying battle ensued, tying the two teams at 26. However, an ace by Tschannen followed by a Fairfield service error, gave the Howlin' Huskies the advantage and they won the second set, 28-26.

The third set had a slow start, with the Huskies and the Stags keeping it close throughout the first half; although Fairfield kept a slight lead throughout. Eventually, NU tied the score at 18, giving them the push they needed to take the second set, 26-24, which put them up two sets to one.

The Howlin' Huskies kept the match interesting during the fourth set, almost allowing the Stags to come back and tie up the match at two. However, similarly to their first match of the day, the Huskies tied the score at 26 before pulling ahead to win set four, 28-26 and win the match overall.
