TOWSON, Md.– Despite a pair of 18-point efforts from
Vasa Pusica and
Bolden Brace, the Northeastern men's basketball team stumbled Thursday night at Towson, falling 75-72 to the Tigers at SECU Arena.
The Huskies and Tigers locked down one another during the first half, with Northeastern coming away with a 31-26 halftime lead, but both teams exploded in the second half, with Towson outscoring Northeastern 49-41 to come away with the win.
Pusica finished with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists, but was forced into six turnovers by the Towson defense. Brace also added 18 points, thanks to 5-of-7 shooting from deep.
Jordan Roland added another 14, hitting four of Northeastern's 13 treys on the night, but they weren't enough.
Towson was led by an 18-point effort by Brian Fobbs, who was 5-of-6 from the free throw line down the stretch and came away with eight of Towson's 40 rebounds. The Tigers managed to outrebound the Huskies 40-22, including 17 offensive boards they turned into 18 second chance points.
FIRST HALF
After
Anthony Green won the tip, for the 16
thtime this season, the Tigers took over and started the half on a 9-0 run, that was finally ended by a Green putback over four minutes into the game.
Northeastern wasn't fazed and matched that Tiger run with a 7-0 run of its own in a 58 second span. After the Green and-one, both Pusica and Roland followed with steals and scored, the latter ending in a dunk that forced Pat Skerry to call a timeout.
Towson continued to hang onto the lead until the Huskies connected on four-straight treys, including back-to-back threes from Pusica that gave Northeastern its first lead of the game with 8:43 to go in the half.
Northeastern held on to that lead, heading into halftime up five, 31-26.
SECOND HALF
After three-straight threes to start the second half off for the Huskies, including back-to-back treys by Brace to start things, Towson held the Huskies scoreless for over three minutes and used an 8-0 run over a two-and-a-half minute span to even the score at 40-all with 13:23 remaining in the period.
Dating back to the start of the run, the Tigers made eight of their next 10 shots to regain the lead for the first time since late in the first half on a Betrand three.
Once the Tigers regained the lead, they were able to hang onto it for the remainder of the game, connecting on their free throws down the stretch to ward the Huskies off and come away with the victory.
