TOWSON, Md. – A fourth quarter goal from
Angela Connolly, her first of the season, was the deciding factor in the Northeastern field hockey team's 2-1 victory over Towson on Friday afternoon.
The Huskies dominated on the offensive front for the entirety of the game finishing with 18 shots, 11 on goal to Towson's four shots, just two on goal. And were able to draw nine more corners than the Tigers on the day (13-4), but it was a late redirected shot from Connolly off of a send in by
Alli Meehan that was all that mattered.
In her first start in goal,
Erin Savage picked up her first career win making one save on the day while allowing the one Towson goal.
The Huskies were the first to get on the board in the 10
thminute of action when
Lauren Rowe put back her 13
thgoal of the season off of a penalty corner to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. It looked like Northeastern had a 2-0 lead off of what would have been another goal off of a corner by Rowe, but Rowe's sweep into the back of the goal was deemed perhaps too high and it remained a one goal game.
After the Huskies dominated the entire first quarter and much of the second, Towson was able to even the score at one-all off of a penalty corner, where the score remained into the half.
The Huskies have a long break before their next game coming on Oct. 20 when they face off against Bryant at 1 p.m. on Dedham Field. Prior to the game, the Huskies will host a clinic beginning at 9:30 a.m. and participants and their families are welcomed to stay for the game against the Bulldogs!
