TOWSON, Md. – Despite swinging 16 kills during the competitive first set of Friday's CAA match at Towson, the Northeastern women's volleyball team was ultimately unable to match the Tigers' net dominance as the Huskies were defeated in straight sets at SECU Arena (25-21, 25-12, 25-15).

Athena Ardila scored five of her team high, nine kills, during the opening set for Northeastern (7-8, 1-2 CAA), which collectively hit .364 across its 33 first-set attacks. The Huskies battled back from as many as six points down (17-11) to pull within a point of Towson (13-2, 3-0 CAA) at 20-19, siding out until 22-21 before the Tigers dropped three of their 19 first-set kills (hit .500) to claim the 25-21 victory.

Northeastern had trouble navigating Towson's blocking unit as the match progressed. The Tigers executed five blocks apiece during both the second and third sets, limiting the Huskies to 17 kills against 16 attack errors.

Evelyn Gonzalez recorded seven kills on 19 attacks (hit .316) and led Northeastern with six digs.
Samantha Shupe set 17 kills for the Huskies while
Erica Staunton registered four kills, two blocks and four digs.

Towson landed 45 kills against seven errors (hit .422) across the match, sporting the 13-2 edge in blocks.

Annie Ertz finished with 11 kills and three blocks for the Tigers while Emily Jarome paired 10 kills with four blocks and five digs. Lydia Wiers and Silvia Grassini notched six blocks apiece for the home team.
