DEDHAM, Mass. – Led by a two-goal effort from
Alli Meehan, the Northeastern field hockey team clinched its spot in the CAA tournament for the third-straight season and earned its 10
thwin of the season with a 2-1 victory over Drexel on Friday night.
Meehan drilled home the game-winner for the Huskies (10-6, 3-2 CAA) on a penalty corner in the 58
thminute of action, after directly inserting a pass to
Lauren Rowe, Rowe wound up and fired and Meehan redirected her shot past the Drexel goalie and into the back of the goal for the score and the victory.
Meehan initially got the Huskies on the board first when, in the 26
thminute of play, she and
Bella Cuomo had a little give-and-go action in front of the goal that resulted in the first goal of the game and her ninth of the season.
Drexel (4-13, 2-4) evened the score early in the fourth quarter but with just under two minutes remaining in the game the Huskies connected on the penalty corner goal for the game-winner.
With the win, the Huskies picked up their first 10-win season since 2014 and will finish with at-least a .500 record in conference play for the third-straight season.
The Huskies will round out the regular season at home on Sunday afternoon when they take on Hofstra at 1 p.m. at Dedham Field. Make sure you arrive early so you can be a part of the Senior Day ceremony.
