Dominant third quarter not enough for NU at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. – With Alexis Hill and Katie May finishing as its leading double-digit scorers on Wednesday, the Northeastern women's basketball team chased down Fordham during its explosive third quarter, despite receiving the 74-58 defeat at historic Rose Hill Gymnasium.

Hill hounded the paint for Northeastern (0-4), hitting eight of her 13 attempts from the field en route to scoring a career high, 18 points. The NU sophomore rounded out her stat line with the team high, seven rebounds, while also contributing four assists and three steals.

May earned six of her season high, 13 points, from her back-to-back 3-point jumpers that prompted the Huskies' 8-0 run to begin the third quarter. Northeastern went on to shoot 54 percent during the third quarter, outscoring the Rams by the 18-5 margin to carry the 42-41 lead into the final period.

Stella Clark knocked down a 3-pointer during Northeastern's opening possession of the fourth quarter, providing the Huskies with their largest lead of the game at 45-41. However, Katie McLoughlin answered Clark with a perimeter make of her own, cuing an 18-4 run by the home team that left Fordham (1-4) in control for the remainder of the night.

Shannon Todd and Kendall Currence mirrored Clark's seven-point scoring line while Ayanna Dublin matched four points with four rebounds and four assists.

Bre Cavanaugh led the Rams with 21 points and six rebounds. Megan Jonassen also notched 10 points and eight rebounds for Fordham.
