ESTERO, Fla. –
Jordan Roland finished with 13 points as the Northeastern men's basketball team (3-4) dropped a heartbreaker to Drake (5-2), 59-56, on Tuesday in the Gulf Coast Showcase at Hertz Arena. The game witnessed eight lead changes and ties as both teams played well defensively.
Bolden Brace made two 3-pointers in the game to push his career total to 180, tying former standout Chaisson Allen (2007-11). Brace finished the game with nine points and six rebounds.
Jason Strong gave the Huskies a three-point lead, 51-48, after a pair of free throws with 5:15 remaining in the game. Drake responded with a pair of free throws on the other end and took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Roman Penn with just over three minutes left. Two late turnovers cost the Huskies a chance to take the lead down the stretch and the Bulldogs made four straight free throws to win by three.
Drake's Anthony Murphy led all scorers with 17 points, while Penn finished with 15 for the Bulldogs. D.J. Wilkins was the final player in double figures with 11.
Northeastern will close out the Gulf Coast Showcase on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Huskies will take on Murray State or Weber State. The game can be watched on FLOHOOPS.com.
