MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Despite
Alexis Hill and
Stella Clark's pair of 20-point scoring games on Wednesday, the Northeastern women's basketball team was unable to slow down Central Michigan as the Huskies received the 79-63 defeat at McGuirk Arena.
Â
Hill funneled in a career high, 24 points, for Northeastern (0-6), shooting 12-for-14 at the free-throw line while chasing down seven rebounds and blocking two shots. Clark scored her season high, 21 points, exclusively during the second half, offloading 14 during the third quarter to inject life into the Huskies' offense.
Â
Northeastern offered Central Michigan (2-3) little separation during the opening quarter, tightening the score to 11-10 when
Mossi Staples drained her first career 3-point field goal.
Ayanna Dublin fed a back-door pass to
Katie May to keep the Huskies within 15-12 at the start of the second quarter while Hill later converted the three-point play that brought NU within a point, 18-17, with 5:12 remaining in the half.
Â
However, the Chippewas rode their 14-2 run into halftime, keeping the Huskies scoreless for close to four minutes.
Â
Clark's 3-pointer with 3:28 left in the third quarter reduced Northeastern's deficit to its lowest point at 46-35. She and Hill went on to account for 38 of the team's 44 second-half points.
Â
Kyra Bussell led Central Michigan with 20 points and seven rebounds. She was one of four Chippewas who finished their scoring in double figures along with Micaela Kelly (14 points), Maddy Watters (11) and Jahari Smith (10).
