NEWARK, Del.-
Camille O'Conor scored a late game-winner on a
Kasidy Anderson assist in a competitive 1-0 victory to push off No. 23 William & Mary in the closing minutes of a chilly November evening so the Huskies can trek onward to the CAA championship match.
Â
Backed by a beautiful five save performance, goalie
Julia Gluyas got her first shutout of the year while the Huskies back line held strong as William & Mary tested them with many quality efforts. Late in the fourth quarter, two separate green cards from
Sam Bodo and
Kasidy Anderson left the Huskies vulnerable but, the defense stepped up in a big way to protect the draw.
Â
With the game tied 0-0 late in to the fourth, one of the last offensive efforts in the game saw Anderson collect the ball at the top of the circle and then dish it off to flanking O'Connor who converted the opportunity with 1:33 left in the match.
Â
The Huskies got revenge tonight after losing 2-0 last season to reigning CAA champions William & Mary in the semifinal round and 2-1 in overtime in the regular season. They look onward to Sunday where they will take on top seeded Delaware in the championship game on their home turf.
