BOSTON– Behind
Kasidy Anderson's 100
thcareer point, and some late heroics from
Aerin Frankel and
Alina Mueller, the Northeastern women's hockey team advanced to the Hockey East Semifinals for the ninth-straight season with a 1-0 victory over Vermont on Saturday.
The win marked the 200
thof head coach
Dave Flint's NU career, as he became just the second coach in program history to reach 200 victories on Huntington Avenue (Don MacLeod won 210 games from 1981-92).
Anderson netted the lone goal of the game, while Frankel finished with 22 saves on the day. But no save was bigger when, Frankel's initial rejection of a Maude Poulin-Labelle shot attempt with 50 seconds left in the game sailed up and over the Husky netminder. Mueller swooped in and with her stick kept the puck from crossing the goal line, sending the pass back out to negate what would have been the game-tying goal by a matter of centimeters.
With today's victory, Northeastern also won its 10
thstraight WHEA quarterfinal round game, dating back to the 2014-15 season.
The Huskies outshot the Catamounts 32 to 22, including holding Vermont to just three shots in the opening stanza.
Anderson got the Huskies on the board first with her 20
thgoal of the year, and more impressive, 100
thcareer point, redirecting a shot from
Codie Cross in front of the goal to boost the Huskies to a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. The goal came after an extended delayed penalty that gave the Huskies a man-advantage for 90 seconds, resulting in the score.
With the goal, Anderson became the 30
thmember of the NU 100-point club, while her 53 career goals rank 20
thall-time at Northeastern.
Frankel is now 6-0-0 in her career in the Hockey East playoffs. Frankel has not allowed more than two goals in any of her six WHEA postseason starts, also picking up her sixth shutout of the season.
