STORRS, Conn. – Grabbing the quick lead against Connecticut on Wednesday, the Northeastern baseball team was unable to string together the timely hits it needed to keep pace with UConn as NU lost its midweek affair at J.O. Christian Field, 6-2.

Northeastern (16-16) jumped in front, 1-0, during the second inning, receiving consecutive one-out doubles from Jeff Costello and Jake Rosen before Ryan Solomon came through with a sac fly to right field in foul ground. Costello – who lined his seventh double of the season over the leaping Connecticut third baseman and down the left field line – was held to one base after attempting to tag on Rosen's double, which one-hopped into the right field fence.

Connecticut (21-12) responded during the home half of the second inning by staging a two-out rally against Brandon Dufault. After Jake Farrell had initiated a 3-6-3 double play – one of three twin-killings Northeastern fielded – UConn registered four straight hits, taking the 4-1 lead courtesy of Michael Woodworth's two-RBI triple.

David Stiehl struck out two batters during his scoreless third inning, but Connecticut managed to score a pair of insurance runs against Brian Rodriguez during the fourth inning. Conor Moriarty followed Northeastern's 1-6-3 double play with a double down the left field line, later scoring on Anthony Nucerino's two-RBI single.

NU loaded the bases without a hit during the sixth inning, plating only one run courtesy of a wild pitch.

Henry Ennen and Rick Burroni combined to keep Connecticut scoreless across Northeastern's final three defensive innings.
