Coyne Schofield, Scamurra capture gold at Women's World Championship


ESPOO, Finland – Northeastern women's hockey alumnae Kendall Coyne Schofield and Hayley Scamurra helped the U.S. Women's National Team capture its fifth straight IIHF Women's World Championship (WWC) gold medal on Sunday as the Americans edged Finland in a shootout, 2-1. 

Coyne Schofield was named the tournament's Best Forward following Sunday's final after posting nine points (five goals, four assists) in seven games as Team USA's captain at the competition. Coyne Schofield, who earned her sixth career Women's Worlds gold medal, set up Annie Pankowski's goal in the championship game, and was also named to the WWC All-Star Team.

Scamurra earned her first Women's Worlds gold medal after making her debut at the competition in 2019. The Williamsville, New York native scored her first career WWC goal in an 8-0 win over Russia in the semifinal round, and finished the tournament with two points and a +5 rating in seven games.

Chloe Aurard sparks France to historic win

Freshman Chloe Aurard propelled France to its first-ever win at the top level of the WWC, scoring the overtime game-winner against Germany on April 8. Aurard finished the tournament tied for her team lead in scoring with three points in five games.

Denisa Krizova helps Czechs tie best-ever finish at WWC

Alumna Denisa Krizova helped the Czech Republic finish atop Group B and tie its best-ever finish (6th) at the WWC. Krizova tallied three points in five games, including the game-winning goal against Sweden on April 6.

Mueller picks up where she left off for Switzerland

Freshman Alina Mueller returned to the ice for Switzerland and notched a goal and an assist as the Swiss finished fifth. Mueller was named a Second Team All-American and a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award after leading the Huskies with 51 points in her first collegiate season.
